The Club House Hotel is proud to be the oldest hotel in Kilkenny. It was the first establishment of its kind in the city to take the name of 'hotel' in place of the old term 'inn'. We got our name from the Kilkenny Foxhunters' Club, which was established on Patrick Street in 1797 by Sir John Power.
In 1817, to exploit the opening of the new Cork Road, it was formed into a hotel. Apart from catering for weary travellers, the hotel provided accommodation and sustenance for hunt members who were too exhausted (or not exhausted enough) to go home. Soon after, John Walsh entered into partnership with Mr. Rice.

A good place overall if you're in Kilkenny. The town is so cute and small that you can walk in the medieval centre covering everything you want to see in a few hours and this hotel is located exactly in the middle of it all, a 5 minute walk to the castle.
If the place has very good value, is central and I got my stay in a deal's website I wasn't expecting to find a Sheraton neither a cheap and smelly hostel, and this hotel has a good balance.
So as mentioned brilliant location: 1 minute from the main bus stop to and from Dublin (perfect), good sized room with kettle, good food in

The Beet, fennel, orange and Blue salad was fresh and delicious. We ordered the veal scaloppine which was just okay. I tried to get a Cosmopolitan and was told they don't have cocktail glasses. Be sure to try the Ballilarkin liqueur--delicious!! It is a quiet and well lit restaurant if that's what you're looking for.

This "vintage" (aka old) hotel is extremely well located for enjoying Kilkenny. It's a 5 minute walk to the castle, shopping areas, and night life. They also have a really nice pub and free parking.
The problems here, though, are really bad.
From the moment you walk in you will notice a musty/moldy smell which gets much worse as you move through the hallways to your room. Once inside our room we had to leave the window open to try and air things out and yet I still had to load up on allergy medications to stop sneezing and I actually felt asthmatic after staying 2 nights
