Gillingstool Primary School
Gillingstool is such a special place in which every member of staff knows and cares for every child in the school. This compassionate ethos is promoted at all times and is recognised as a strength of Gillingstool by parents and visitors alike. Within that caring ethos, we seek to maximise every child's potential, by working together with parents to provide an education tailored for pupils needs.

We strive to ensure there is support where needed and challenge in every lesson to stretch the minds of all students. Across the curriculum, we will develop creativity, curiosity, initiative, independence and most importantly your child's confidence and self-belief.
Services
At Gillingstool, integrity and inclusivity are at the heart of everything we do for our children. In partnership with our parents and the wider community, we provide a unique environment within a vibrant and caring school - inspiring our children's passion for ambitious, life-long learning. This is delivered through consistently high standards in teaching, learning and behaviour.
Whilst our name has changed several times over the years, Gillingstool Primary School has been providing education to children in the heart of Thornbury for over 150 years. We previously occupied the Victorian buildings on Gillingstool Road. Those buildings are now occupied by the Little Acorns Nursery, which is the main feeder nursery and pre-school to our school.
At Gillingstool Primary School, we aim to encourage pupils to develop an appreciation and understanding of the past. By learning to evaluate a range of primary and secondary sources, our historians will be able to explain how people around the world used to live and that interpretations of events can differ.
The school is very fortunate to be supported by an active Parent Teacher Association - The Friends of Gillingstool Primary School - FOG. The Friends are a registered charity, and the organising committee strives to provide a mix of fundraising and social events throughout the year for the school's pupils, their families and the local community.
At Gillingstool we encourage our children to play a full role in the life of the school, developing positive relationships and taking an active role in making our school and community a better place. Gillingstool's School Council is run and led by the children, supported by Mrs Stimpson.

The school council is made up from two children from each year group who have been chosen by their peers to represent their views and make decisions on a variety of issues.Every class from Reception to year 6 is represented on the Council with the older Key Stage 2 children taking a lead and being responsible for supporting and guiding the younger members of the team.
