With a history dating back to 1605, The Crown & Thistle on Bridge Street re-opened its doors in 2013, following a 1.8m restoration. This Grade II listed coaching inn comprises three individual buildings clustered around a cobbled courtyard, framed by 200-year-old wisteria.

The Barn at The Crown & Thistle is a characterful alternative to your classic corporate meeting space. Seating up to 100 guests, The Barn is a suitable space for a variety of events, from business meetings to board meetings and networking to conferences. Do not have a Christmas party here!
Christmas menu is a bit over priced for what it is, tastes just as nice as anywhere else. (Food was hit and miss, one person's burger was over cooked another's was really pink). We were told we had the room until 1am but got told to turn off our music at midnight. We were also told that we could use the bar in the room we hired but then they wouldn't serve us there and told us we had to go to the main bar to order drinks (the two are sort of connected).
Usually a good atmosphere at this pub, though it is a hit and miss with staff helpfulness. By all means try

A really nice hotel in a number of ways - lovely character room, fantastic location close to the river, delicious breakfast (eggs benedict was top class), good value for money, nice embedded pub (not a hotel bar, but a decent pub in it's own right) and most of all - lovely, helpful and pleasant staff. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed two large wood oven pizzas here. Beers were a bit warm, but I think there was an issue with the coolers. Despite the good food, service was slow and for quite an empty restaurant it was difficult to summon staff, even though there were at least three or four on duty that morning. The meal check back came almost as we were finishing our meals, and we had to approach the bill to ask for the bill.

I have eaten here a number of times and recently stayed in a standard room. The staff could not be more polite and helpful always smiling always considerate with a nothing is too much trouble attitude. The food offers quite a lot of difference with imagination. A soft yolk scotch egg is such an example great when taken with a salad. They are always happy to mix up the menu offerings. The wine choice is good and it is difficult to be disappointed. Dogs welcome and messy babies. The room we had was very clean and had style although quite small but had a decent size en suite. This is a very good place

Not very impressed because I'd requested a quiet table when I'd booked over the phone this week and I'd been assured that this had been noted. My request was ignored and I made a complaint and made them move us immediately. The food was good but they ignored my request and I'd said how important it was. They need to really up their game.

Had a meal out with friends here. We all really enjoyed our evening with great food, service and setting. Delicious food to suit a range of tastes; classic steaks and great vegan options.
Really appreciated how good they were catering for allergies. GF is noted on their menus and can easily ask for other allergies. Fantastic service.
