The Darnley Hotel
Built in 1921 the Darnley Hotel is independently owned and set in it's own tranquil gardens just yards away from the start of the Ilfracombe High Street. The Sea front is also just a short walk from the Darnley Hotel. The owners have started a rolling programme of updates and investments. The objective of which is to retain the original features throughout the Hotel and provide guests with all the modern conveniences and comforts expected.

The Hotel boasts its own private wooded path, which is illuminated at night, leading down to the beginning of the High Street. The Award winning grounds have a stunning variety of flora and fauna on show which entices mixed bird and animal life into the garden. With its own parking facilities for cars and bicycles the Darnley Hotel is a fabulous place to stay and explore North Devon.
Services
The Beech Cottage enjoys views over Ilfracombe and, by using the hotel's wooded footpath, easy quick walking access into Ilfracombe High Street and Seafront. Prices are seasonal and start from 200 low season to 800+ high season. Please phone for availability and prices on specific weeks. Dogs are welcome free of charge but we do ask that they are kept on a lead whilst in the Hotel grounds.
We do not wish anyone to book a holiday that is unlikely to suit and we will offer our best advice to all prospective guests. The geography of Ilfracombe and the nature of our building, a Victorian House, not a purpose built hotel, does offer certain limitations and this may be important to you.

Please ask us before booking if you are at all doubtful or have any particular needs that you would like us to know about i.e. dietary or disability requirements. The majority of our bedrooms are en-suite, have the same level of decoration and each room is provided as standard with a hair-drier, clock radio, television and tea & coffee making facilities.
Within the Darnley Hotel is our Licensed bar and restaurant serving breakfast and evening meals. We use locally sourced produce as much as possible. Most of our meats come from an Exmoor Butcher and our vegetables from a local Produce provider. Within the Darnley Hotel is our Licensed bar and restaurant serving breakfast, afternoon tea and evening meals.
You will find the Darnley Hotel is the perfect place to hold your functions in Ilfracombe. There are a variety of spaces within the Darnley which can be configured to host your event. The Dining room can hold your board meeting, presentation or be configured for use to hold a training session. It can seat up to 28 people and can be fully catered for.
Valentines or any time you want a romantic break by prior arrangement you will receive flowers, a bottle of Champagne and pillow chocolates on arrival. The Darnley Hotel is available for you to hold conferences or off site meetings. You can set up as a board room, classroom for training events or you can use the lounge for smaller events.

Really nice hotel, lovely room, breakfast was great. Lovely secret shortcut to town. Only downside awkward to get into carpark off road, that's a minor thing

Access into property very poor for large cars.
Grounds overgrown and needs attention.
The manager not very welcoming on arrival....
We was shown to our room to top floor the manager pointed out flood damage to the ceiling and walls with mould on the walls.
The room itself was clean but needed updating nothing like the pics shown on website.
Breakfast was ok..
Myself and my partner felt very uncomfortable there and cut the stay short by 2 days ... It was our 3rd year anniversary and wanted a special time but was very disappointed.... Ilfracombe itself is very run down and not a nice place

Pretty good place, we’re very welcoming. Was on the top floor and was a bit odd having the bathroom on the other side of the floor where our room was but nothing that major, did need a lot of fans in our room tho (don’t think that can really be fixed anyway). Very good access to the city with a private path through, didn’t have breakfast there but it was pretty good would come again.

This is a very comfortable hotel with parking available. I had room on top floor and a separate private bathroom. The breakfast was very well present and tasty. The service was slow. I think covid restrictions made serving much slower than normal

Waited nearly an hour for evening meal and 45 mins for breakfast. Then charged £5 surcharge for choosing steak! No toast offered for breakfast. Room clean and comfortable. Place lacked finesse. Cigarette ends in garden.

1. Customer Service is excellent. We have reached the cottage at 11:30PM(But we already told them, we would be late). Paul & Lorinda happily welcomed us to the cottage.
2. In this Corona situation- They have cleaned the house very neatly and very well maintained. It is 100% safe to stay.
3. Paul & Lorinda are very friendly people. They can assist you in whatever info/help you need.
4. One way system is maintained inside the cottage, which is very safe for all of them.
5. Breakfast is freshly cooked and delicious to eat.
6. Looking forward to stay in the same cottage again.
7. I highly recommend

Excellent little find, great welcome from the owners on arrival, spacious, well appointed room which was spotlessly clean . Breakfast was impressive which a fantastic choice , the sausages, bacon etc were not mass produced stuff but good genuine farmhouse produce all served with a smile. Due to the times we currently find ourselves in you have to include how safe you felt.... the Darnley was extremely Covid aware with many precautions and measures in place to maintain the health of its guests, owners and staff . More than reasonable prices at the bar with a wide choice of drinks on offer, the owners
