Burgh Island hotel is an iconic Art Deco landmark and retreat, positioned on a wildly beautiful and secluded tidal island. The hotel was once described as a shining white ocean liner surrounded by golden beaches and silver seas. How true this continues to be today. Burgh Island is widely regarded as one of the foremost places to see and experience Art Deco in Europe at its best and most authentic.
Since 1929, Burgh Island has been welcoming famous and infamous guests, who have enjoyed utter peace, space for themselves, time to think and a regular seat in the Palm Court. In homage to this rich history, the 25 rooms and suites bear the names of a visiting guest and is a nod to a bygone era. Take a digital detox!
Black tie and evening dress are absolutely de rigueur for all guests in the Grand Ballroom looking to enjoy high-quality fine dining in Devon. If you prefer a less formal evening, please ask to dine in our Nettlefold restaurant. No matter where you dine at Burgh Island, you can be sure of fresh, local, and seasonal food, sourced here in Devon and skillfully prepared under the watchful eye of our experienced chefs.
Burgh Island Hotel is a bucket list destination for many, but what is Island life really like? We're totally unique, beautifully eccentric, we love creating memorable experiences, and we also remain a little bit of a mystery! Above all, we are here for our guests and we thrive on delivering the best service possible.
The Burgh Island hotel experience changes with the tides and the seasons, no two stays are the same. The whole island experience drifts from utter calm to raw and stormy, so quickly, by day or by night. Whatever the weather, Burgh has a somewhat mesmerising beauty, which gives it a lasting place in the minds and memories of many of our guests.

Such a shame it was closed on a beautiful sunny day in October half-term week. Beach was very busy. We were a large party and always go there when we visit Burgh Island. They missed a trick. What was worse though, they locked their toilets so noone could get water for their dogs and its a long walk back to the other side when your grandchild needs the loo there and then. So selfish. Shan't bother to go again. They don't deserve our business

Unfortunately, on our visit (4 adults, 2 children), a bit of a disaster! Staff all at sixes and sevens about menus, availability, and accuracy of dishes. My curry wrong, wife's dish didn't turn up. That said all meals were very nice. No coffee available and bill was wrong. Same for only other table there - also a six. Premises date from 1337 and very atmospheric. Great excitement on special sea tractor on way home in the dark.

Sadly this is no longer an atmospheric 700 yr old pub. It's a mechanised tourist processing unit that treats customers like third class citizens and then overcharges by about 100%. The staff are lovely and one feels sorry for them having to deliver such a devastatingly poor product. Don't go there unless you are completely devoid of discernment or aspiration and don't mind being ripped off.

We have always loved The Pilchard, but last time we went the food was not good, service was from staff who were overbearing and we came away gutted...
Well... Not anymore! We had the most beautiful meal with family last night! The service, impeccable, professional and really friendly. The food was on another level, simply stunning in taste and presentation, and the atmosphere wonderful. The Pilchard has definitely got its sparkle back, it was magical once again and we came away with big smiles! Julia the manager brings such energy to the place, something that was lost for a while, but is right
