The only reason not giving it 5 stars was after waiting 25mins for food and seeing others served after arriving after ourselves our order was forgotten to be placed..we did get our first drinks free for this mistake so all forgotten about. When the food arrived it was presented beautifully and OMG tasted amazing..so much so we have booked another table for Sunday dinner..Can't wait to taste this amazing food again.

Dont be put off by the outward apperance... this isnt a typical high street pub.... it looks like your typical "local" but the food here is second to none.
We ate hear 2 nights (1st & last) of our 3 night stay, quality is right up there portion size is great and value for money fantastic (£42 for 2 mains, 2 desserts & 4 alcoholic drinks).
The staff are fantastic and accomodated our changes to menu items with no problems.
Karen is attentative & friendly (as are all staff) and seems genuinely interested in giving fantastic customer service.

Desperately tried to find a "contact us" link on the web page so that I could share my thoughts privately. But, since I couldn't find that, here goes:
98% of our experience here was fab. The lads behind the bar were fantastic. Food was good. But there's a young dark hair lad that was pure rude to us. He got on great with the locals so I'm sure he's got some personality, unfortunately not every patron here will be local and his attitude will cost the business in their reviews.

The service at this place was amazing! Scottish people are the most friendly, but Karen was incredible!!! She was the best waiter 😊
I was sad that I was not able to taste the livers, but everything we had was amazing!!!
The food was great! We had pie, haggis, beef, nachos!
And sticky toffee pudim!
There is a great variety of scotch whisky but also Irish whiskey and from other places!
And a variety of beers!

Came in after a hike to Arthur's seat. My wife need to use the restroom and I notice the many types of beer they have on tap so we I order a drink which was much cheaper than getting it on prince street. My wife wanted some snacks so we order the ribs and mushrooms. They were both good and cheap. I had another beer and both were quite good. The place looks like a regular British type pub. The service was good and friendly. I would come back again if I get the chance. The burger that pass me lol really good.

Very welcoming traditional pub in the Newington district of south Edinburgh. Nice atmosphere in comfortable surroundings with tv screens for the sport. Bar staff are very approachable and friendly, and also knowledgeable about the large selection of whiskys available, This pub does in fact advertise itself as a 'whisky bar'. The beers are reasonably priced, and quality food is available from breakfast time onwards, at a competitive price. Clientele is very mixed, ranging from locals through students to tourists. Well worth a visit if you are in the Newington area.

A traditional pub, with traditional pub cliental (older gentlemen looking at TV screens), The Abbey supplies a decent range of beers and spirits at very reasonable prices. The staff are friendly and fairly efficient, managing to deal well with busy friday pay day lunches or crowds of pub quiz goers.
The menu offered sticks more or less to the pub classics, but they are well done. I have eaten here a few times and while the presentation isn't the best the food is heart, filling and tasty.

I've only ever been to The Abbey on the one occasion, but then again the whole place failed to make a very positive impression on me. The pub itself is nice enough, though the shape of the bar can make things a bit cramped in here despite the fact that it is a fairly large pub.
My reason for coming here was because the Crags was showing the United game and we wanted to see the Arsenal game so at half time we left the Crags searching for a pub showing the latter game. The only pub we could reach in the half time break was this pub as they were showing both games here (which does count in

The Abbey is located in the Newington area of Edinburgh, really close to the University, the student halls of residence and the Meadows so it should be really popular with the students. It's not.
It is your typical average old man pub, with sleazy drunken men leering and jeering at every girl who walks in - not inviting. Inside The Abbey is really run down, with stains on the chairs and carpets and the floor is really sticky.
The only redeeming feature of The Abbey is the menu. It serves full English breakfasts for under five pounds, a wide selection of burgers and main meals for around

I like pubs that would generally be classified as 'old men pubs' - I like thier quiet atmospheres, a place where conversations can be had over a pint of ale brewed in a farmers back yard.
The Abbey is an 'old man pub'. However, its far from the idealised serenity of the type I enjoy during lazy sunday afternoons.
The bar itself is looking a bit scabby, and after the smoking ban stopped all smoking in pubs over Scotland, this place has had its tabacco smoke stench replaced by the smell of stale been and sweat. Yum.
The Abbey has absolutly none of that charm mentioned as a
