Due to recent increased demand for remote online learning, Southampton Guitar Academy now offers guitar lessons online. Whilst many of my students are based in and close to Southampton, you are not limited by distance. For this reason, a number of my students take lessons from nearby cities in & close to the Hampshire area such as Winchester, Bournemouth and Portsmouth.

In 2016 I purchased a guitar and amplifier as part of my 2nd or 3rd midlife crisis and realised it was much, much harder than it looked. Fortunately I found Marcus and he’s taken me on a musical adventure. His teaching style is excellent, I’ve made really solid progress and I really enjoy our lessons. Marcus is a talented musician who’s really personable and has a deep understanding of music, I’m interested in the theory behind the music and he’s never failed to satisfy my curiosity.

Marcus is a brilliant guitarist with infinite patience, attributes which contribute to his excellence as a teacher. He has very positive approach and will always find a way forward when you think you have hit a brick wall. He has transformed by son’s guitar learning experience from something that ‘had to be done’ to something he is genuinely excited about. It’s been transformative!

Marcus Richardson is an excellent effective music teacher and a mesmerising guitarist with a captivating range of inspiring skills. I've been a student of Marcus for more than 5 years. Marcus has great breadth and depth of knowledge and passes this on in a very easy going manner. He employs a variety of teaching methods and is happy to follow either a structured syllabus for grades or a less formal structure. The lessons are fun, I enjoy every session and my guitar playing has improved enormously. What more is there to say?!

Marcus is not only a great guitarist but also has an in depth technical knowledge of the music theory behind it and can teach it at a rate the student can absorb without being overwhelmed or bored. With Marcus' help I've made great progress over the past year and look forward to seeing how far my playing will have progressed in the next year.

Marcus is a very nice and dedicated guitar teacher. I enjoyed his lessons for almost a year. Southampton Guitar Academy is definitely the way to go if you are looking for a fun learning environment.
