What is Behavioural Optometry? Optometric vision therapy or behavioural optometry is an individualised treatment program designed to improve visual function and performance. We hope the website gives you all the information you need on the range of services we provide. We are qualified Optometrists, registered with the General Optical Council and the National Health Service.

We provide a full range of Optometric Services including sight tests, contact lenses and vision therapy. However, our specialism is in Neuro-Developmental and Behavioural Optometry. We work with young people with educational difficulties such as dyslexia and dyspraxia. We also help people who have difficulties due to brain or eye injury or problems with double vision or lazy eyes.
Services
We do not just provide a typical Optometric NHS service but offer a much wider and just as important service to the community. Here is a little bit about who we are. John was born and brought up in Ashton under Lyne. After qualifying from City University, London John started his career working with Professor Bedwell and fitting contact lenses at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
There are a number of visual skills that are necessary for reading. For example poor or inaccurate focussing will lead to the print going blurry or mean that the subject will be restless or hold the reading material at an inappropriate or constantly varying distance. Practicing focussing skills doing exercises like accommodative rock with lens flippers or Hart Chart rock will improve this and lead to improved performance.
Many factors contribute to a child's ability to achieve their academic potential. Good eyesight is key. It is estimated that vision accounts for as much as 80% of the learning process for a child. Reading, writing, chalkboard work, and computer use are among the visual tasks students perform daily.
Accommodative dysfunction is an often-overlooked functional vision problem that makes classroom learning difficult and interferes with performance in school. When parents contact us they often wonder how their child could have a vision problem that interferes with learning when their family optometrist or school screening did not detect anything wrong with the child's eyesight.
Did you know that approximately 80% of what a child learns at school is learned visually? Acquiring knowledge from the page, the board, the screen, and interactions with teachers and classmates requires continual use of the visual system. You may think that if your child can see clearly, you're in the clear; however, vision is much more than clear eyesight.

Fantastic optician - I couldn't fault anything about the whole service. Thorough examination which resulted in a very accurate prescription which reduced headaches as a bonus. Recommended!!
