Services
How do you know you are choosing the best for your eyes with so many options available to you? We are an independent optician in the heart of Bacup that delivers quality eye care that is personal to each patient. Here at Crowther Optometrists we pride ourselves in offering a continual service to each patient.
We understand you may feel apprehensive coming to the practice, so we have made a few changes to our procedures to ensure your safety. Here is a summary of what to expect. If a companion is necessary (for example with a child) it's recommended that this is limited to one parent/carer.
Due to the nature of an eye examination our clinicians can not adhere to social distancing, for this reason they will be wearing Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).We also ask that you attend wearing a face covering, in line with current public health guidance. When we advise you that your glasses are ready for collection, we will book you an appointment for the collection and fitting of your spectacles.

Eye tests are our primary service. It is extremely important to have regular eye examinations to ensure your eyesight is best protected, whether you think you need glasses or not. Many changes to eye health take place gradually and often go unnoticed or without obvious symptoms.
We recommend routine eye tests at least every 2 years, however if you have a family history of glaucoma, under 16 years of age or over 70 years of age, or if you suffer with Diabetes we recommend an eye examination annually.A full patient history and symptoms to establish your specific requirements for your lifestyle.

Advanced eye tests may be employed during a routine eye exam to give your optometrist a more in depth look at your eye health. These tests are often used in the early detection of eye disease.
Retinal imaging is a digital image taken of the retina, blood vessels and optic nerve located at the back of your eyes to assist in the early detection and management of certain eye diseases, such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetes and hypertension. It is a painless test, no different to having your picture taken, and takes a few minutes to complete.

Vision is responsible for around 80% of all learning during a child's first 12 years. Undetected vision problems can interfere with their ability to learn and meet their full potential. Physical, emotional and social development can also be compromised. As children often assume their vision is the same as everyone else's, it's common for visual problems to go unnoticed.

I have had many problems with my eyes in the last 2 year (detached retina and cataract surgery to each eye) and after 30 years with vision express I decided to switch to a local optician, I read the reviews on Crowther's and attended my eye test yesterday, I have to say the service was excellent from the staff through to the optician, they were kind, caring and gave good advice. I went in expecting to have to upgrade my lenses, they did not attempt to sell me something that would make very little difference, which I appreciated.
So happy after all my problems I have found my new opticians which

Thank you so much for all your help! What an incredible result!
My 8 year old Joseph has been struggling with reading and the page going blurry, following an eye test from a local opticians saying his eyes were fine I put it down to tiredness. But a year on the consultant recommended Crowthers for an eye test and colourometry test. 4 weeks on, he has new glasses with a small prescription and a colour tint, he can read the tiniest print on the page! WOW! Thank you!

Not good I'm afraid, went here as thought would be much better, more personnel touch than spec savers which is where I normally go, was told my eyes had worsened and so bought an average priced frame with my lenses which are always expensive as I have reactor lights and verifocals they cost me around £350 for one pair which is more expensive than I'd pay at spec savers for their buy one get one free deal so I usually end up with my prescription full monty pair and a pair of sunglasses in my prescription for less than the £350 I paid here. I expected a top notch service, which was no better than
