Services
A very comfortable Bed and Breakfast near Ambleside. Built during the 17th century, its character and structural features have been preserved during modernisation and it has a warm welcoming atmosphere combined with the charm of earlier times. At the rear, beneath the fellside which slopes gently upwards to meadows, there is a picturesque flagged yard which forms the guests' entrance.
Bring your horse and ride the Lake District! Horse Holidays in the Lakes! Stunning scenery and so easy to ride with so many miles of bridal paths, The Langdales, Rydal, Coniston, Claife, Grizedale are all easy to ride from Holmeshead Farm. We have stables for your horse(s) or it could be out in one of our safe fields.
Ambleside is an attractive small town of about 2500 people situated in the centre of the Lake District National Park, about 1 mile from the head of Lake Windermere. It is at the hub of the area's road system and all parts of the National Park are within 1 hour's drive. Many fine mountain and valley walks, both easy and strenuous, start from the town.
The easiest approach to Holmeshead is from Ambleside. Leave the town on the A593 towards Coniston. After 1 1/2 miles, turn left at the sign to Hawkshead (B5286). After 300 metres, turn right along a narrow road running alongside the river, which is on your right. At the next T junction, turn left. After about 400 metres you will see the sign for 'Holmeshead Farm'.
