We offer a range of clinics and services at the practice, including Child Health Clinics, Cervical Smears, Minor Surgery and Travel Vaccinations/Clinic. I would like to thank all our patients, their families, and carers that I have had the privilege of looking after over the last 35 years.

I have really enjoyed my time as a General Practitioner and am humbled that I have been able to carry out this role for such a long time and had the most amazing support from my staff and colleagues over the years.I will continue in an advisory capacity ONLY at Carmel Medical Practice and will carry on conducting valuable research tohopefully help the lives of future generations.
Services
The surgery offers extended hours for patients who require them due to work commitments etc. Please ask for further details at reception. The Casualty Department at Darlington Memorial Hospital is open at all times. Please use it for accidents and emergencies only. If you are in doubt please telephone the surgery for advice first.
GP Specialist in Cardiology, Darlington Memorial Hospital. Senior Clinical Lecturer, Centre for Integrated Health Care Research, University of Durham. Mrs Gwenda Blake is responsible for the day-to-day running of the practice. She welcomes any comments or suggestions and may be contacted if you have a problem or a complaint you would like to discuss.
Immunisation is the safest, most effective way of protecting your child against serious diseases. It is therefore important that your child is protected. An immunisation clinic is held by the Practice Nurses and your child will be sent an appointment to attend at the appropriate time. If you are unable to attend please contact the Surgery to make alternative arrangements.
Many travel vaccines must be given a couple of weeks before to travelling. For that reason we can only vaccinate those that have a departure date of at least 8 weeks in the future. Please call the surgery or come into the practice to arrange a telephone appointment with the nurse.

This allows the practice nurses to check your medical records to see what vaccines you have had in the past, Find which vaccines are needed for the country/countries you're travelling too, and arrange an appointment for you to receive these vaccines. If it is less than 8 weeks we advise you contact your local Chemist for the Travel Vaccines or try Peaseway Medical Centre who offer a travel clinic.
Please speak with the receptionist if you require more details of how to order your repeat prescriptions. This is to ensure safe and responsible issuing of medication and to prevent unnecessary medicine waste. Online from your GP Practice - if you are not already registered for patient online please speak to the practice.

Worst Surgery ever . You will be in queue for ages without knowing your number in the queue. I was not able to book appointment for myself for a long time. It the main issue and the reason why this clinic get bad reviews and it is needed to be fixed urgently, if they really keen to improve.

Waited 45 minutes on the phone to book an appointment, with no notification of how long it will take or which position in the queue I am.

Never can get through to make appointment. Have made appointments in advance, only to have them cancelled last minute. Was told to go at 7.30am to get an appointment. I don't drive and have to use a wheelchair.

I have always found the staff helpful and whenever I've needed an appointment for a child it has been the same day.

I cannot believe the bad reviews this surgery has, I am pleased with the help and treatment I receive from them. I can only think that sometimes it may be the way the public speak to the reception in the first instance.

I know we have a pandemic at the minute but really dont appreciate the receptionists telling me I'd have to photograph the symptoms of a sore throat and email it to them its absolutely unbelievable.

I have nothing but good words to say about Carmel - the doctors are consistently professional, compassionate and efficient. When visitng the doctor I have never felt constrained by time pressures - eachdoctor takes as long as they need with every patient and for that reason I am never upset or riled about waiting times. The receptionists have always been helpful and very efficient too - all in all I could not wish for a better practice

I've been with this surgery my whole life and my mum was even with them before I was born. I've never had any problems and find all the doctors sympathetic and kind. The receptionists themselves have gone out of their way for me when my mental health means I can't attend appointments. I can't fault them at all. Only thing I would suggest is online booking for appointments because it's a bit tricky to get appointments
