La Garrigue
The restaurant is open Tuesday to Saturday for Lunch and Dinner. When coming in, you will be asked to check-in using the "Track & Trace" app and wear a mask. Please note that bookings are for 2 hours only. Thank you for your understanding. La Garrigue opened in 2001.

Largely inspired by the Languedoc region, La Garrigue offers rustic family style cooking, complimented by a large selection of the best wines from this area of France also known as "Le Midi".It features rustic Tim Stead tables and chairs as well as original paintings by Andrew Walker from towns like Bedarieux, Combret and more.
Services
Specialising in French country cooking exclusively from the wild and rural Languedoc region, which borders Catalonia on the sunny Med, La Garrigue offers genuinely alternative food whilst keeping the Gallic stamp of quality. Traditional rustic French dishes are enlivened by a modern touch. Many of the ingredients for the menu dishes are unique to the Languedoc region and are sourced directly by Jean Michel.
NOW we are looking for a French speaking part time waiting person with experience in a similar restaurant. Please let us know if you wish to apply. We are always looking for good chefs or French speaking front of house people. Please contact us, because if I am not looking for someone today I may know somebody who is.
We've consistently had a really excellent time on our tours to the vineyards and restaurants of Languedoc. The feedback from our wine aficionados is always positive ranging from "the best holiday we ever had" to "embarrassingly under priced". Now booking for 2018. These dates are ideal for connections with Ryanair.
La Garrigue is 30 yards off the Royal Mile. Head down the Royal Mile towards Holyrood Palace. Pass the Crowne Plaza Hotel on your right. Slightly further on, on your left you will pass John Knox House and at the traffic lights turn left into Jeffrey Street. La Garrigue is just round the bend with views towards Calton Hill.
At this time of the year, when we wish that Spring was there, when the daffodils are coming through and the snowdrops are getting tired; when the temperature is rising one day just to bite back the next, we still need that comfort food to reassure us and to help us to deal with the winter blues. This dish is by far my favorite dish, it reminds me of those bitter but sunny winter days in Languedoc.

Lovely place to call in for lunch or just a coffee & cake, friendly, chatty staff.
Coffee & food all fine and tasty.
(Was no problem to adjust menu to accommodate a fussy child)!
Would definitely call again when visiting.

Delicious French food served by knowledgeable staff who were attentive but not pushy. Lovely bright venue with a lovely view. I recommend the Roquefort soufflé and a revised retro classic dessert rhum baba

Food was amazing. Warm welcome and very attentive staff.
Super friendly and interested in our trips to France.
Reason for knocking off one star. A bit disappointed with the automatic 10% service charge. I would have left a tip. It should not be automatic.
We will be back though as the food and people are amazing.

Great to be able to eat and drink wine indoors again but due to govt. requirements (screens between tables) things feel a little sterile and not quite right. Let's hope next month's review leads to full relaxation and the full 5 ⭐ dining experience again...

Great quality, tried the fish soup, pork steak and cheese souffle, freshly made bread & butter and lyonnaise potatoes, all of excellent taste !!! Also had the chocolate mousse and levander creme brulee which were top notch! Good service and very artistic ambience.

Had a meal at home from here for a birthday meal. The food was out of this world. Can’t wait to try it again. So tasty and very good quality produce. The chicken was the tastiest chicken I have ever had. Highly recommend. What a treat.

A great dining experience. Our starters of terrine and goat’s cheese tart were delicious. My partner described the seafood stew as exquisite. My confit duck cassoulet was tasty, but nothing memorable. It seems the seafood stew was the winner here. Both desserts - the creme brûlée and lemon tart - were great. Service was unassuming but effective.

They were able to accommodate our party of 14 at the last minute and they were SO amazing about it. I'm usually nervous about going to a restaurant with a large party, but they didn't lapse in their excellence in any capacity. The food was outstanding, the service was excellent, and the overall experience was memorable and delicious.

I really enjoyed the ham hock terrine and their selection of bubbly appertifs was unique and delicious.

The food was exceptional. What a way to end our trip to Scotland. My friend and I decided to each do two appetizers instead of an entree to try the most out of he menu. I had the breaded soft poached egg with wild mushroom ragout and crispy pancetta. It was so flavorful! The ragout was delicious and hearty. The egg was a wonder and I still can't figure out how they cooked it. My friend had ordered the fish soup but after it was too fishy for her they kindly swapped it out for what I had but without the pancetta. She then had the king scallop which was a huge portion as they also included the

Went here for a Valentine's dinner. Was accommodating in moving our reservation slightly earlier and had excellent service. We ordered from the a la carte menu although there was a set Valentine's menu because it had lots of seafood that is be allergic to. I saw quite happy with my choices.. Pigeon breast with spinach and apple, rabbit with caviar, aubergine and wine sauce, finished with an apple chestnut dessert with ice cream. My hubby got a fish soup such was quite fishy and needed more salt, pork tenderloin with pig cheek and 'trotters croquettes', and creme brule.

Apparently La Garrigue is an Edinburgh institution but as I've lived in Glasgow for the last hmmhmm years I'd not heard of it before. The restaurant is very, very French, right down to the ladies loo with it's odd saloon swing doors (thankfully there is an outer lockable door). All the staff we encountered were authentically French but despite that very friendly and helpful. Vibrant colourful paintings of the owner's home village hang on the walls.
The reasonable fixed price lunch menu was suitably interesante and I started with rabbit rillettes with celeriac and carrot salad

I was quite apprehensive about going here because it's French and the French are known for their exquisite and sophisticated cuisine. I'm quite a fussy eater so, I wasn't sure if there would be anything I would like on the menu...

I started off with the soup- Parsnip and Cauliflower (I don't usually go for cauliflower) and it was great! It was rich and creamy, but not too creamy. The bread supplied was good, but it wasn't warm.

I then had the cheek of beef for my main course. I have never had beef so tender before. My knife just fell through it. The vegetables were a

Great lunch at La Garrigue. I went there with a groupon voucher for 3 courses with a aperitic cocktail, hoping for good things and I can say it was all absolutely delicious.

We started off with an interesting aperitif of chestnut liqueur and white wine - don't think I have had that before but it was a nice start for the lunch.

I had the endive, pear, roquefort and walnut salad for my starter. It was very tasty, just the right amount of 'everything' and nicely dressed salad. The only thing is that it was served in a bowl which wasn't entirely practical eating, but when it

This is an awesome French Restaurant. If you're on the fence and wondering if you should eat here, stop thinking and do it. I started with fish broth soup that was served with my favorite sauce in the world - Rouille! Smear some on the crusty bread and float it in the soup and you'll wonder how you're parents could be so cruel as to not give it to you in bottle form. Wife also had a delicious blue cheese soufflé salad. The next course was another favorite, Cassoulet. So good! Again, So Good! This is French food done right. Yes, I love this little restaurant.
