Our EYFS Unit is a happy and fun environment for the children to start their school life at Higher Lane. It provides the perfect transition between nursery and school and is set up with lots of areas that the children will be familiar with, eg Construction Area, Sand Area. The Reception children's learning is based around the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, and children learn through a mix of child initiated and teacher led activities.
There are 2 Reception classes with 5 full time staff at Higher Lane - 2 teachers and 3 teaching assistants, and we share the same room - separating only for register time. We have a very large 'classroom' area, a conservatory for 'messy play', and our own Outdoor Area. The children have at least 3 teacher led sessions a day for Maths, Phonics and Reading as well as lots of time to play in the areas with their friends.

Services
With parents working from home and/or performing critical worker roles whilst also educating their children, we understand the demands placed on families during these difficult times. Therefore, we are pleased to announce all of our home learning will move to two online learning platforms named Microsoft Teams and Seesaw.
Oak National Academy provides free video lessons, slides and worksheets to support teachers, as they support their pupils - both for learning at home or in the classroom. Created by teachers, their resources are freely available for teachers and parents to use as they wish. Teachers in school will use some of the Oak National Academy resources in their lessons, but please feel free to access the website and explore the resources available.
Learning by Questions (LBQ) is a classroom app filled with curriculum-aligned Question Sets and immediate feedback to super-charge learning. It is a scheme we have introduced accross KS2 classes which we use alongside our other Maths resources. This means it is only accessible to those years and not the whole school.
Our single, most important message we can give is for children to know their number bonds (EYFS/KS1) and their timestables and division facts (KS1/KS2) off by heart, so please make sure your child is using TTRockStars on a daily basis. Also, we often hear parents and/or guardians saying "This method is different to how we were shown to do it" and, of course, this is quite right.
Each class will have a timetabled remote learning Computing session with Matt from Technola. He will be delivering the lesson via the whole year group Teams page. Matt will begin with a live session and then signpost the year group to the activity for that session. He will be on hand throughout the session to support you and your child at home.
