Thornton & Wright Opticians was initially established in 1991 by Andrew and Julie Thornton, but gained its full name in 2000 when John Wright joined as a partner. Andrew was born nearby in Northowram, and knowing the local area well, recognised that there were no opticians' practices in Hipperholme.
Whether you have recently been to the opticians, or perhaps haven't had an eye exam in a little while, you will probably be familiar with many of the tests that are routinely carried out at every appointment. The back of your eye can display tiny but extremely important early warning signs of a variety of problems.
You might think that your child does not need eye tests until they are old enough to go to school, but in fact it is recommended that they receive eye examinations from the age of three. At Thornton & Wright Opticians, we can use shapes and pictures rather than words to help us monitor the muscles that control your child's eyes, and ensure that everything is working correctly.

I visited Thornton & Wright for the first time last week and was honestly blown away by the service. The staff were friendly and approachable, and nothing was too much trouble as they showed me the wide range of frames after a thorough eye examination. After I was advised which frames the optical assistant thought would be suitable, I was given time to look through them on my own and wasn’t hurried at all. The service was professional and helpful throughout, and I’m very happy with my new ray-ban glasses so thank you!
