Absolute beginners welcome, young or old we'll get you through the basics and help you learn your favourite tunes. Are you experienced? We can help you develop your own unique style based around your own influences and the techniques you want to master. Here is another video of me playing ' Sound of the Bells ' a nice south American guitar piece.
Ukulele lessons from an experienced teacher make sure you get the basics right, providing a solid platform for advancement to the more complex styles of play. I give lessons on the 5string Banjo. There are two main styles of playing the banjo - clawhammer somtimes known as old time banjo, and Scruggs style named after the great bluegrass player Earl Scruggs who developed the three finger style of playing.

Bolton Guitar Studio was established in 1976 by Simon J Lilley Alcm, Llcm, Ftcl, primarily to give guitar tuition. Due to the demand from my students I gradually began to retail guitars, music and accessories. I am now into my 35th year of trading. I began my interest in the guitar in 1961, learning to play Bob Dylan songs, then when the Beatles and the beat group scene started I began to play the electric guitar.
Aside from the ever-popular George Formby songs, ukulele is increasingly used in modern folk and pop/rock music, sometimes in novel ways, and with the worldwide success of the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain it has brought the ukulele back into the mainstream music scene. The ukulele is a great starting instrument for beginners but seasoned practitioners learn to play highly complex rhythm and strum patterns.

Simon set me on a path that has allowed me to travel the world, earn a fantastic living, and provide for my family throughout the years. When every schoolteacher tried to convince me I would never 'amount to anything', Simon continued to encourage and inspire. Music has been my life, and for that I thank my Sensei... Eternally grateful.

Really good experience when I bought my guitar, still loving it several months later with no problems. Great advice and help choosing without the hard-sell. Couldn't be more pleased with the purchase.

I've since been for several guitar lessons, the atmosphere is friendly and Simon is very knowledgeable. He's quite witty too so you quickly feel relaxed and don't feel embarrased when you have trouble playing a piece. A great local shop and the guitar lessons are even better. I gave five stars for my initial review but I'd give more now if it were possible.

I have been with Simon (Bolton Guitar Studio) several years now and it is no understatement to say that under his guidance my playing has improved well beyond my expectations. Simon can, and will, teach any style (rock, classical, jazz, country, blues, etc) to the highest possible level (which is no mean feat) and therefore I have always felt confident that what he teaches is appropriate and meaningful to my goals.
Simon's knowledge of musical theory is outstanding, and if this is important to you then you can be assured that he can guide you from humble beginnings (where it all feels so hard

I've been going to Simon at Bolton Guitar studio for quite a few years and would recommend him highly. If you want to learn to play Country, Simon's your man, if Rock is your bag, he's the one! Maybe you've heard John Williams or Julian bream play a delightful tune on Classic FM and wondered, How do they do that ? and you would you like to learn Classical guitar and learn how to read music, and perhaps go down the ABRSM ( Associated Board Royal School of Music route, then give Simon a ring and pay him a visit. Want to play lute, banjo, or even Ukulele? or it could be that you would just like to

I can't recommend Bolton Guitar Studio highly enough. Simon's a great guitarist. He can play and teach any style you like. Classical, rock, blues jazz or whatever, he can play and teach them all. You want to play from notation? No problem, and he's knows more music theory than you're ever likely to need. Don't want to be bothered learning to read music? No problem either. He'll quite happily teach using tabulature.
All the lessons are very relaxed and friendly, and he goes at a pace to suit the student.
