Two reasons why stand out. Auctions are an endlessly interesting merry-go-round of art and antiques by which knowledge - I dislike the over-used 'expertise' - is both informed and broadened but also the excitement that comes from objects that are a tangible manifestation of history. I hope you enjoy this weekly blogs.
If attending the auction, you will be asked for proof of identity and address. Please keep your bidder's number (paddle) and show it to the auctioneer if a lot is knocked down to you. If you wish to bid by telephone enquiries@mellorsandkirk.com at least 24 hours before the auction. You can create an online account here and login to place bids directly from our online auction catalogues.
Nothing beats the excitement as the battle for your lot intensifies on the auction floor. At Mellors & Kirk we guide you through the entire selling process; from valuation, collection and auctioning to receiving your cheque for the sale. We offer free valuations at a variety of locations across the Midlands, find out more on our valuations page.

Took various items including 6 piece dinner service, 6 piece coffee set both in excellent condition, a lot of Kaiser porcelain and other ceramics only for a Porter to look at 2 pieces and say £100 for everything. Needless to say left with all of it, having read other online reviews seems we have dodged a bullet, please read other reviews before going there as tbh thinks this place are a bunch of rip off merchants.

Sent a valuation in via email, I received a “Sorry this is not saleable” as a reply. So I asked if they could elaborate on these FIVE words. I received this “No one would bid for it” . The most unprofessional company email response I have ever had.
Might I add that no “good morning, hello, hi, thank you, kind regards, goodbye or even a name on… these emails!!
I rang up to give feedback on these “in depth” emails, only to be given excuses which included and I quote “ we have had 490 emails this week and sales tomorrow” also and I quote

I wish I had read the other reviews about Mellors & Kirk before I bought from this site.
I purchased a Victorian birdbath from this company recently. The condition report stated “No substantial damage”. After purchasing and collecting the item, I set up the birdbath in my garden only to find that there is a fairly obvious crack in the bowl of the birdbath (which I would class as substantial damage) resulting in the birdbath’s inability to hold water, thus rendering the birdbath unusable and not fit for purpose.

I spend regularly at auctions. Mellors & Kirk has been added to my small, 'Do not trust' list. Bought two lots: one described as 'Good condition', but has obvious damage. Had a round trip of 140 miles to collect. Porter advised me to leave it behind, as he could not authorise a refund and there was no-one in attendance who could. Proprietor now denying there is any damage; (the porter could see it); refusing a refund and telling me to organise collection. Apparently, (contacted Citizen's Advice), there is nothing I can do, as I could have attended on auction day. In this age of on-line auctions

... very unfriendly ... bad customer service ... sells products with wrong description. Coins are sold as silver and 10 percent of the lot are originally CoNi only. A serious auction house should know the difference. Looks like intentionally added. Seems that they don't tolerate criticism as I have been banned from bidding for the future, because of this rating. Believe me ... it was not my intention to bid again.

Very abrupt and unfriendly receptionist, felt talked down to as if by a grumpy headmistress. London salerooms not at all like this.
Bought from them before and on collecting they were indeed rather pompous and very unlike other salerooms which are very friendly and approachable.
Not sure why the attitude is about 50 yrs behind the times. Edit :Maybe I caught her at a bad time. They do sell lovely stuff.

I bid through thesaleroom.com at a recent Mellors & Kirk sale. I was prepared to pay up to £800 for the lot in question but the hammer fell at £600 and the lot was knocked down to me online. When I phoned up to pay & arrange collection I was told it had been sold to someone else for £650! The computer records from thesaleroom.com showed that Mr Kirk had restarted the sale after the fall of the hammer, cancelled my online bid, entered another bid of the same figure of £600 from someone "in the room" and then sold it to another room bidder for £650. His catalogue terms &

I have bought at this auction house on a number of occasions and have always found the experience to be pleasing and enjoyable. The auctioneer has a friendly yet professional manner, and his droll humour is a delight. Whenever I search any of their online catalogues I can always find what I want, as the descriptions are detailed and accurate, particularly for the Fine Arts sales. This is exactly what one needs from a modern website, as search criteria are so crucial. The weights (where appropriate) for gold and silver items are also much appreciated, and sadly lacking from most other auction house
