Welcome to the website of Tring Bowls Club - a friendly, vibrant lawn bowls club on the outskirts of the old market town of Tring that lies at the foot of the Chiltern Hills in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the western extremity of Hertfordshire. The Club is managed and operated on a voluntary basis by its members in a friendly and warm environment and has members of all ages from pre-teenagers to great-grandparents.
Apart from its county-standard 6-rink outdoor green surrounded by high hedges in a picturesque setting, the Club's excellent facilities also include a large club-house with meeting and changing rooms, kitchen and licensed bar. The green opens from the end of April to the end of September and because of the seasonal nature of bowls, opening hours vary.

Services
Although there is evidence of a bowling green in Tring Park Estate as early as 1739, Tring Bowls Club was founded in 1908 as Tring Games Bowling Club, part of the Trust House Group's sports programme at the High Street's Rose and Crown Hotel. Remarkably for this part of England, before conversion to a flat green it was initially constructed as a crown green and believed to be the only one of its kind as far south as Tring.
We welcome all newcomers to our Open Days whether you've never bowled before, perhaps have played a few ends in a public park, or maybe you used to bowl and are thinking about taking it up again. All ages are welcome and there's nothing to pay, with free tuition and use of the Club's bowls. There's no need to book - just come along with a pair of flat - soled, heel - less shoes or trainers.
Of necessity the following outline of the game is a much simplified account of the basic points and this link will take you to a page of short videos that illustrate many of them. The aim of the game is simple: to get your bowls, either as an individual or team, closer to the target than your opponent.
A varied social programme of events, compiled by Trish Hewetson our Social Secretary, is run during the non-playing season where Members and their families are all welcome to join in. The type of events are summarised below and details will also appear on the social noticeboard in the Clubhouse where you may record your interest on the relevant list.
Clubs that we play or have recently played, both outdoors and indoors, are listed alphabetically below with addresses and telephone numbers. You can zoom in or out using the plus and minus controls and move it via a left-click of your cursor. Wherever possible the telephone numbers are those of the clubhouse or a nominated official of the club, but in some cases it wasn't possible to attribute the number.
