Our English school is located in a quiet residential area in the West End of Edinburgh but is still only 10 minutes walk from the city's main shopping streets and the historic "Edinburgh Castle".In the busy summer period we also use extra premises which are usually very near the school so you may study English there too.

Services
This English course is for people who wish to improve their general level of English. The course concentrates on improving all aspects of your English but we strongly believe in helping you to learn to speak English well so much of your time will be spent practising listening and speaking. You can start this course on any Monday and choose to study from 1 week to a full academic year.
This English course is for people who wish to improve their general level of English but who also want an opportunity to do a little extra work in the afternoon to practise and consolidate what they have learnt in the morning session. With small groups in the afternoon you will be able to practise speaking more and to have conversations with your teacher using some of the English you learn during your course.
The part time afternoon general English course is ideal for students keen to improve their fluency and understanding of English. You will study in a motivating environment with people from different countries and cultures and whether you study for a week or a year, you are guaranteed to improve your confidence in English.
The IELTS exam is an excellent option for you if you want to demonstrate your level of English to Education establishments or employers all over the world. All UK universites, and many overseas, recognise this industry standard exam as proof of your English level and suitability to study in an English speaking country.
The Cambridge First Certificate Exam (FCE), Cambridge Advanced Exam (CAE) and Cambridge Proficiency Exam (CPE) are extremely useful English exam certificates to have. You can also find out about how to register for Cambridge English exams at the Edinburgh test centre here. At The Language Institute we offer 2 ways to study for the Cambridge exams - Full time and Part time.

I totally recommend the school. I spent 2 months with a General English + Exam Preparation course.
The teachers are amazing, very close to the students. In class, they practise all the skills for the lenguage: speaking, listening, grammar and reading.
The location is convenient (next to a bus and train station) and they have a kitchen with coffee and tea for the break 😄

My son arrived yesterday at this fantastic school. Highly recommended, because they are attentive and helpful and solve any problem. My son had lost his wallet on the bus when he arrived and he was left with no money and documents, and Mr. Hamish immediately supported us at any time to reassure us by providing all the necessary support. He even found the wallet, going personally to the lost property office. The best school my son has ever attended. Highly recommended!

I have been studing in TLI for 1 month, and the classes were great. All the teachers were very kind and fun, especially Meg and Oisin. We combined all kind of lessons, including grammar, vocabulary, speaking, listenting and exam preparation. The school is in a beautiful building located in the city center, close to parks and places to have luch or a beer... I truly recommend TLI to take an english course, prepare for any certificatation or just to learn english while getting to know new people.
