As the UK's leading telemedicine charity for primary health care, the Virtual Doctors turns a smartphone app into a lifeline for countless vulnerable people. Every day 200 NHS doctors come in from a busy shift, log onto the Virtual Doctors app and volunteer to improve the lives of 4,000 people in Africa.
The Virtual Doctors use a Smartphone App to connect isolated health centres in rural Zambia and Malawi with volunteer doctors, based predominantly in the UK. The volunteer doctors offer advice to diagnose conditions, and to manage and treat patients. This assists and empowers local health workers, helps reduce unnecessary hospital referrals, and ultimately saves lives.

Services
We are a UK-based charity with a Zambian operation. We use a simple Smartphone App to connect rural health centres (where there no doctors) in rural Zambia and Malawi, with over 200 volunteer Doctors, based predominantly in the UK. The volunteer doctors offer advice to diagnose conditions, treat patients and prescribe medicine.
Health workers struggle to diagnose and treat many chronic and acute conditions, so patient conditions can deteriorate. Patients may have to walk or cycle for many hours, or even days, to reach a district hospital. Costs of transport are prohibitive to many. The Zambian Ministry of Health's e-Health Strategy 2017-21 included telemedicine in its strategic priorities.
I am really enjoying the VDrs network. The doctors are quick to respond to the referrals and their advise are great, very helpful and educative. The VDrs are super fantastic. Virtual doctors as an organisation is a true and dedicated partner in fight against the disease burden in our communities. It feels so great to be part of this organization and thank u for making our work much lighter as clinicians.
