Managing Optometrist and practice owner STEPHEN HALPIN qualified and registered with the General Optical Council in 1998. Stephen has worked across the Optometry industry including a 10 year period as a Franchisee with a large multiple Optician chain in Northwich town centre.
Stephen participates in many levels of NHS Shared care schemes, including Cataract Pre and Post Op Assessments, Glaucoma Screening and Monitoring, Diabetic Retinopathy Screening and he also performs specialised Contact Lens fitting for more unusual cases, along with routine Contact Lens patients.

All children under 16 are entitled to a free eye test at BOS Opticians. Stephen can't emphasise enough the importance of checking children's eyes from an early age. School checks are not enough and good eyecare is paramount to your child's social and academic development.

You might think your vision is fine or that your eyes are healthy, but sometimes a comprehensive dilated eye exam is the only way to really be sure. When it comes to common vision problems, some people don't realize they could see better with glasses or contact lenses. In addition, many common eye diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and age-related macular degeneration often have no warning signs.
Regular eye examinations are important, which is why we recommend you have an eye examination at least every two years if you are aged between 9 and 70 *. Under 9's and over 70's should have a sight test every year. Working Tax Credit/Child Tax Credit (and are named on a NHS Tax Credit Exemption Certificate).
Scientific research has shown that the use of coloured filters on spectacles or coloured overlays laid over text can help some children and adults to read better. The coloured overlays help to reduce the perceptual distortions of text which can sometimes be reported. A coloured overlay assessment is carried out only after a full eye examination and if symptoms are still present after the appropriate spectacles or exercises have been prescribed.

First visit for my daughter after being recommended by others. Immediately the level of customer service was evident and the eye test was completed with care and fully explained to her! Great to see her being included and the inclusion was definitely well received at 15 years old! All staff were amazing and obviously really cared! Back in a few days to collect her new glasses! Definitely more than 5 star service - so far ahead of other opticians in the Northwich area!

5* Service from beginning to end, quick and easy appointment making, Stephen and the team were brilliant, gave me a thorough explanation of the test results, assisted in choosing glasses, very reasonably priced and the turn around time from having my initial test to picking up my new giggs was 1 working day, truly fantastic service :-)

My job involves working closely with independent opticians all over the UK, so I see the great, the good, and the not so good. I can confidently say that my experience today at BOS was exceptional. I was able to book a next-day appointment for an eye test. The service on the day was friendly and efficient. The examination was extremely competent and very nicely handled. The practice is, rightly, proud of the modern and advanced equipment they have available (I haven't seen better either in an independent opticians or in one of the national chains). They provide specialist NHS services in eye health

Having had a lifetime of eye-issues, I feel incredibly well-placed to review an opticians. The experience received here is difficult to quantify by the stars that the system allows. 5 stars is simply not enough. Everything from customer service, the care taken from the entering into the stylish Scandi looking establishment, through to the detail afforded by Stephen Halpin, the owner, to my eye examination was simply stunning. And then there was the choice of spectacles. The well known makes are there but for me, there’s a whole bunch of left field makes which I couldn’t resist. Recommend in
