Our dry hardwood logs get more popular every year with many customers returning time and again for our Ash and Birch logs that burn with a merry flame. All our forestry products come from our sustainably managed woodland where maintaining and expanding the home we can provide for wildlife is our main priority.
Managed according to a Forestry Commission woodland plan and a Country Stewardship Higher Tier scheme, our woodlands are full of birds, butterflies and even dormice! Clearing trees helps create woodland glades and other threatened habitats for walkers and woodland animals alike to enjoy. The recorded history of the Ashridge Estate goes back to the 1100's when the Valletort family lived here and were Lords of the Manor of North Tawton.

Managing the woods also provides work for us and our staff, supporting the local economy.
The building of the Great Barn is lost in the mists of time but the barn was probably originally built in the middle ages; when Devon had only been a part of England for a few hundred years, was still divided up into 'hundreds' and governed by sheriffs, stewards and lords of the manor.

As the Ashridge Estate waxed and waned over the years, the residents ranged from the eccentric to the scandalous. Dr William Orchard lived there between about 1838 and 1850; most likely responsible for the abandonment of the old Manor and turning the Devon Long House on the hill into a Georgian manor.

In Turkey the Ottoman empire was in its infancy, the Pax Mongolica held sway from Vienna to Shanghai and the Aztecs were building their capital city of Tenochtitlan to rule their expanding empire.Today you can take a trip to visit the ruins of these empires, the Ashridge Great Barn has outlasted them all.

I have worked in this care home for 4 years now and this is the best place I have worked and feel the care we give is very good, I would be very happy for one of my relatives to come to this care home as know they would be looked after properly. Management are also very supportive of their staff which helps in this type of work environment.
