Ongar Health Centre is a three partner, dispensing, teaching and training practice with a list size of approximately 12,400 patients. Our website has been designed to make it easy for you to gain instant access to the information you need. Due to unforeseen freight challenges, we have been advised that there is currently a 1-2week delay on receiving our Flu Vaccinations.

Please note we will be inviting you for your vaccination as soon as we have confirmation of a delivery date. This may be at short notice but if you are eligible we will be in contact. Please note that dispensing patients are currently able to collect their medications from the dispensary at Ongar Health Centre between 11:30-13:30 and 16:30-18:00 only.
Services
There are many services available to help you to stay healthy. Some of these services can be accessed directly (see below), and for others you need to be registered with a GP Practice (Surgery). When you wish to consult a GP about your medical condition, you need to contact the Surgery with which you are registered to arrange to be seen.
Our Nurses are available by appointment. They can give advice regarding minor illnesses, injuries, diet and travel immunisations. They perform a full range of Nursing procedures including injections, dressings, urine testing and ear syringing. They also offer clinics for the following: contraception, asthma, diabetic, high blood pressure and smoking cessation clinics.
The Practice Management team is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology.

The Practice Management team supports the GP's and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care. The practice is supported by a team who are responsible for providing all secretarial and administration duties. You may read in the news that practices are being asked to 'peer review' all referrals prior to them being sent to a consultant.
When the practice is closed, there is an out of hours emergency medical service available at all times. This service is meant for urgent and emergency problems and should not be used to avoid the inconvenience of consulting during the day. If you need out of hours help, you should telephone 111 which is a free-phone number nationwide.
We can assure teenagers that confidentiality will be maintained if aged 12-16, and they ask to keep details of their consultations confidential or if they consult us about potentially sensitive issues. Sexual health advice is available, as is advice on other issues such as depression, drugs, alcohol and self-harm and we can advise teenagers about emergency contraception if required.

Absolutely disgrace. Just hope you don't get ill. You'll be on the phone for minimum 40 minutes before speaking to a human. Once you're there, a receptionist will have the worst attitude if you ask any questions. My GP didn't fill out any paperwork so I couldn't get a blood test even though I'd had an appointment booked. A phlebotomist didn't believe that Ongar was my health centre even though I've been attending for the past 23 years. And when I asked how I could resolve the issue of no paperwork being submitted by my GP, I was told to go home and call Ongar Health Centre... whist I was standing inside Ongar Health

This practice is insufficient and lazy. Unfortunately it’s impossible to get anything done through them, and you have to threaten to make a complaint in order to get anything done. I am so disappointed this is my toddler’s gp. I wish I could change 😔

Received a letter asking me to book cervical smear test. Can't get through on the phone due to high call volume. Went in person to book and was told they won't book appointment in person you have to phone. Absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable.

Yes it's a nightmare to get through to them, taking up to an hour on most occasions. But I have found all of the staff and doctors very helpful. I have recently given birth to twins, and they have always fitted me in when needed. Dr Pires has been great! We moved to Ongar just over a year and half ago and have been very happy with the Ongar Health centre for our family.

Took 4 months of calls and emails to finally get myself registered, after they kept losing my registration documents-they have now sent a letter to say they need the registration documents for my children again so they are not yet registered 😒 can never get through and when you do the receptionists are the rudest I've ever encountered. Really dislike the fact there is not another choice of surgery in the area as I don't feel safe in the hands of this one.

Physically impossible to get through these days.
I’ve had three letters telling me I need to book my asthma review and I still haven’t been able to book an appointment with the Asthma nurse.
Been trying to call for so long now and when you ring you automatically get put through to an automated message that cuts you off!!!
One time I managed to get through and I told them the situation. The receptionist replied with ‘ah well an asthma review isn’t very important so you can call back tomorrow’.
Wow. Just wow.
Again, I spent an hour on the phone waiting for someone to answer, I was
