Imagine a world in which children are free to roam fields, walk dogs and alpacas, feed sheep, collect eggs, dabble in ponds, scramble over logs and ditches and clamber about in tractors and combine harvesters. A world of good old-fashioned fresh air and exercise, and - in winter at least - probably quite a lot of mud!.
Set on our own 260-acre farm near Bedale, on the edge of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, Mini Explorers Nursery is a unique concept in early years childcare. As far as we are aware, we are the first and only Farm School in the country! Our days are shaped by the seasons on the farm and the natural world around us.

Mini Explorers was the brainchild of owner and founder Steph Pybus, who first began to dream of creating her own outdoor nursery back in 2012. As a mother of six, Steph - a successful textile designer and long-suffering (!) farmer's wife - wanted a nursery for her own children that would offer the same happy, carefree, healthy, outdoor lifestyle they led at home.
Mini Explorers would be nothing without our amazing team of Early Years Educators and specialist teachers who nurture and inspire our children every day. Ably supported by our wonderful management staff, our fabulous girls on the floor go the extra mile to make sure that our nursery is a home-from-home for all our children.
We do have animals on site which are part of our nursery setting. Naturally, animals come with associated risks and therefore we have installed handwashing facilities for all users of The Nest if you touch our animals. With panoramic views of the farm and surrounding countryside, The Nest is a tranquil retreat from the outside world where we invite you to curl up - with a good book and a mug of freshly ground coffee - and relax.
Calling ourselves a 'nursery school' or a 'forest school' simply doesn't do justice to the opportunities our Mini Explorers are given, and so the term 'Farm School' was coined. Our nursery lies at the heart of our own fully-working arable farm, and our children are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in the farming landscape and its inhabitants every day.
Our Mini Explorers have free rein over 260 acres of rolling countryside. We also know that they need a warm, cosy and safe environment to relax in when their 'work' on the farm is done.
Set in gorgeous converted stables at Crabtree Hall, our Mini Explorers have access to five airy, light-filled indoor playrooms (these are where you will normally drop off and pick up your children each day), as well as some fantastic outdoor spaces which have been adapted and sculpted by our children.
