Nethergill Farm
Nethergill Farm was the result of just two families' lifelong ambition to create a sustainable wildlife haven and long term conservation project. Situated in Langstrothdale at the headwaters of the Wharfe on the Dales Way, it is no ordinary farm. Set in 400 acres between 1,200 and 1,600 feet above sea level, Nethergill nestles quietly into the hillside below the road to Hawes.

With 70 acres of 'in bye' or grazing land around the house and the rest, exposed, wet, peaty, unproductive moorland, the land is perfect for our rare breed Belted Galloway cattle and the native wildlife of the Dales. The large Victorian Farmhouse and traditional farm buildings were built in 1871 and the original occupant a Mr Woodd, cousin to the famous naturalist Charles Darwin.
Services
Step off the world and revive yourself in the peace and tranquility of our self-catering haylofts. Part of an original stone barn built in 1871 with cowshed (or shippon) below, Nethergill Byre has been sympathetically converted into a comfortable, quirky hayloft on 3 levels. Many of the original beams are still in situ and the windows look out over woodland, fell, cobbled yard, and farmyard.
Imagine falling asleep to the sound of our trickling streams and hooting owls and spending a night under the moon and stars in the tranquility of our wild meadows. Take a break from the stresses of ordinary life, disconnect from the internet and connect with nature and the world around you; enjoy the warmth of the rising sun, the freshness of the winds and the soothing sound of raindrops on your canvas.
Located in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and the Dark Sky Reserve, our isolated and rural setting means you can gaze up at the stars and enjoy the true wonder of the night sky without the interference of light pollution.

Whether you are a stargazing enthusiast or a first-timer who has never had the chance to discover our dark skies, take the opportunity to lie down in our hay meadow after dusk and enjoy the tranquility of the natural world around you and the wonder of the skies above you.As an official Dark Sky Friendly Business of the Yorkshire Dales Dark Sky Reserve, book your stay now and discover the wonder of the dark skies from our corner of the world.
Nethergill Field Centre is part of an old cow byre (or shippon) used until the 1960's to house approximately 40 dairy cows through the winter. After being sympathetically converted, it's now a great space suitable for a variety of functions. Spread over two levels, the main area consists of a large, open room with a Yorkshire flagged stone floor and a wood burning stove in the corner.
Part of our vision is to create a sustainable farming system in a wildlife haven which we can share with others. We welcome school groups, universities, clubs and societies to the farm by prior arrangement. Our aim is to demonstrate the link between food, farming and the environment, bringing visiting groups closer to their natural surroundings.

If you want beautiful views that are totally secluded then this is your place. The cottage we stayed in was the Byre and it had everything we needed. It was clean and warm and the beds were super comfortable.

A beautiful farm, ideally situated close to the charming town of Hawes that's filled with local shops and amenities. Plenty of nearby walks and attractions for all interests. Accommodation is cosy and well equipped with plenty of space.
Lovely honesty system for passing walkers in the nature barn where you can learn about the rewilding of the land.
Malcolm and Helen are so friendly and welcoming.

A haven for Dales Way walkers and a perfect spot for 'wild' camping. It was fantastic to have use of the nature barn during the evening - after a long, wet day - and we felt so much more rested and comfortable heading off the next day. We received a very warm welcome and the facilities were clean and of a high standard. Well worth a visit!

A stunning self catered barn conversion in the centre of a working eco farm. Perfect for a family holiday in the heart of the dales or a paradise for any nature lover (bird hides and telescopes free to use for guests). Set on the dales way adjacent to a red squirrel reserve and only 10 miles from the market town of Hawes with homecooked food and home reared meat and eggs available from the farm next door. We spent most of our time on the farm helping to collect eggs, playing in the beck (stream), walking through the woods and just generally enjoying the spectacular views. Can't wait to visit again

Had a lovely weeks holiday here in Autumn half term. The Hay Mew was warm and comfortable, despite the weather outside we didn't need to light the log burner.
The nature barn has some fascinating items in it and is good for kids on a rainy day. We didn't spend as much time as we should have exploring the farm, next time it would be good to look in the woods and sit in the bird hides awhile. The children enjoyed collecting eggs and feeding the chickens and I was impressed with the biomass boiler!
The farm is in a lovely isolated valley but Hawes is only a 15 min drive away, putting you in the
