Services
Our exhibition in 2018 marked the 100th Anniversary of the ending of the 1st World War. We looked at the stories of local men and women who served in the forces and we examined how life was for those who stayed at home in Dollar.

On the home front, the Dollar community supported the war effort in many ways: for example, work parties knitted thousands of socks and other comforts for the troops, vegetables were grown for the Fleet, sphagnum moss was collected in the Ochils, and Belgian refugees and local troops were given hospitality.Summer Time, rationing, watering of beer and banning of penny buns were endured.
Many people have a keen interest in family history (genealogy) and tracing their family roots. Dollar Museum holds a range of materials which may be of use to those researching their past. Our most useful source is the History of Dollar by Bruce Baillie which is well indexed.

We have 19th century Reminiscences of Dollar by George Lawson, Rev. John C. Stewart, William Gibson, John Tait and Peter Porteus These works have been indexed by people and places. We have a small number of Baptism, Marriage and Burial records. We hold copies of some title deeds to properties, business records and also a number of books and reference works.
Harviestoun was owned by John Tait. When Tait's wife died, her sister Mrs Hamilton and family, including the attractive Charlotte Hamilton, came to keep house for him. Burns was a friend of Mrs Hamilton's step-son Gavin Hamilton, a lawyer in Ayrshire, and it was this connection that led Burns to visit Dollar.
The museum welcomes donations of items of local interest. Books, documents and records, photographs, pictures and maps and a range of artefacts can all help to provide information about local people and events from the past. Newspaper cuttings relating to the fire at Dollar Academy and an appeal leaflet from 1963 relating to the rebuilding of the school.
Items available in the Museum shop include books of local interest, notelets, postcards, pens, and two tea towels: 'Dollar Views' designed by Jennifer Campbell and Dollar activities (see photo). There are also badges, a colouring-in book and booklets on local walks. Mounted prints of Castle Campbell, Cherry Trees and Dollar Academy by Jennifer Campbell and the Mill Green by Ian Campbell make excellent wedding or birthday presents.

Unfortunately Dollar Museum is closed till June 2022. Giving it 4 stars because it was good when I visited it a couple of years ago. Apparently they will have a couple of new exhibitions when it opens again in June.

I visited Scotland for the 1st time in Mid September 2018. Being a Campbell I definitely made the Castle Campbell visit a priority for places to see. Everywhere I visited, mostly in the remote country side, the sheer beauty and cleanlinessww is amazing. I visited the museum after visiting the castle. I spoke with a most lovely lady to after a short introduction learned that we shared the same last name. Ms.Jennefer Campbell, I am the one from North Carolina where the hurricane Florence was tearing up while I was in Scotland. I got the last print of the castle you had. Iā€™m really proud to own

Popped in for a nosey this afternoon. Pleasantly surprised. Received a warm welcome from two delightful ladies and found a wealth of local information and some real gems of artwork. Would highly recommend a visit to all visitors and locals.
