The aim of Perth & Kinross Archive is to select, preserve, and make available to the highest standards, the records of Perth & Kinross Council and its predecessors, and those of local individuals, estates, businesses and organisations. The Archive looks after collections created by local organisations and people, as well as the Council's records.
The catalogue contains descriptions of the council and community collections held by P&KC Archive. It will help you find the records you need. Whether you are interested in local or family history, need to write an essay or thesis, or if you're simply curious about the people and places of Perth and Kinross, this is a good place to start.
Archives are useful for pupils, students and academics investigating specific cultural and social themes and historical events. If you have a project or essay to complete, we could help you find the sources you need. If you are involved in any kind of project that you think we can help you with, why don't you get in touch to discuss it?
We are happy to give advice about using our Archives and Local & Family History collections and can undertake quick catalogue and record checks free of charge. For enquiries which take longer than half an hour, a research fee of 20 per half hour will be charged, and where enquiries involve reproduction and/or postage, this will incur an extra cost.
This also provides information about family history services delivered by other local organisations, together with appropriate contact details. Local & Family History specialises in local books, pamphlets, historic local newspapers and maps. We also have microfilms containing images from the Old Parochial Registers and the censuses of Perth and Kinross from 1841-1901.

My favourite place in Perth! They hold competitions and activities to help uphold reading habits and they offer a wide range of books. They even have a cafe! However, the Young Adult section is in a real need of reorganisation as it's books of all sorts jumbled together. Other than that, easy to use!

A cautious 4 star because we largely abandoned the library for years and years after some sub-optimal experiences with a staff member in the kids section who seemed entirely unsuited to the role. The few times we've been in since that era it's been hit and miss with the staff/culture there. On this visit so far so good. Certainly, the building/facilities are pretty good. There's a cafe. There is an e-book service I've used in the past. Bike parking right outside.
