We are a truly mixed veterinary practice in the North Pennines. This means that all of our vets are able to examine and treat pretty much all species of animal. And on top of that, we do it 24hrs a day. Our caseload varies from a rabbit with overgrown teeth, to sick puppies, from a cow calving at midnight, to a lamb with a broken leg.

The team at Old Stone Vets has grown steadily since we started in 2005. We are all committed to giving you, the customer the best veterinary service we can. We constantly look for ways to improve our service and facilities, and welcome any comments you have in this regard via our contact page. Karl is the "old man" in the practice now.
Within our area, game bird work at certain times of the year allows us to assist the local gamekeepers and estate managers in the welfare and disease monitoring and prevention within their young flocks. We post mortem game birds within the season and advise on appropriate treatments necessary to assist in keeping a healthy flock.
Having a horse is a huge, life-long commitment. Whatever your horse's purpose, how they perform depends on how healthy they are, our team of vets have the experience and knowledge to ensure your horse receives top-quality care, so that they can perform at their best. You may check your horse every day for any injuries or symptoms of illness already, but a thorough check by the experts is crucial for preventative care.
At Old Stone Vets we try to provide you with the best veterinary care for your animals at a reasonable price. Our basic price list below covers the routine costs. Any operation your pet may require will always be given an estimate of costs upfront. We always try to explain the costs involved in every procedure.
We are mixed multi site practice, with surgeries in Alston, Stanhope & Allendale, covering the border areas of Cumbria, Durham & Northumberland respectively. At all three surgeries we stock a full range of drugs and supplies for consultations and medical care, with most of our surgical procedures performed at our Alston main surgery where we have nurses, theatres and surgical equipment.

Old stone vets are amazing the love and attention they give your pet, over the years I've lost two dogs and on each occasion you get a signed condolence card from all the staff then Karl phoned me in person to say how sorry for my loss he was, I would recommend these vets to anyone who reads this, your pet is in good hands 🐶
