This has been introduced to get more people saving for their future. Employers will have new duties in relation to everyone who is working for you who are aged between 16 and 74. Whom works in the UK and for whom you deduct tax and NIC from their wages. Most employers will have to choose and contribute to a workplace pension scheme suitable for automatic enrolment which must meet the qualifying standards.
In 2013 HMRC introduced a brand new operation for PAYE called RTI which stands for Real Time Information. Instead of sending information once a year at Tax Year End, employers are required to submit information electronically to HMRC for PAYE, NIC and student loans etc. every time they pay their employees.
Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) is paid to employees who are unable to work because of illness. SSP is paid at the same time and in the same way as you would pay wages for the same period. The employer is responsible for paying SSP to employees who meet certain qualifying conditions. They must be incapable for work for at least 4 days or more, This is a 'Period of Incapacity to Work' (PIW).
Ordinary Statutory Paternity Pay (OSPP) is paid to an employee by their employer in the same way as wages. OSPP is paid for one or two whole weeks taken continuously at the lower rate or 90% of Average Weekly Earnings (AWE) whichever is the less. Your employee has the right to choose when they want to take pay and leave within a set period.
A redundancy payment is compensation because your job has disappeared. If you are made redundant you may be entitled to statutory redundancy pay if you have worked for your employer for at least 2 years. The amount you are entitled to will be based on your weekly pay, age and continuous employment with your employer.
