Market Veterinary Centre
We are a modern, well equipped and highly experienced Veterinary Practice with a long history of looking after the animals of North Devon. Our location, at the heart of South Molton and Pottington, Barnstaple, enables us to remain as much a part of the community as we have always been. We pride ourselves on getting to know many of our clients personally and have enjoyed looking after many generations of animals.

We offer a 24 hour call out service for genuine emergencies outside normal surgery hours and can provide drop in facilities for minor problems and advice - so whatever the problem we are always available. Our modern surgeries are fully equipped with state of the art operating facilities, digital radiography, ultrasound, emergency hospitalisation, on-site laboratories and pharmacies.
Services
Acupuncture is the ancient art of placing fine needles into specific parts of the body to alleviate pain, improve recovery rates and increase resistance to disease. It has been used by Chinese and other Eastern Cultures for many thousands of years as a component of their health care system. Acupuncture treatments should always follow an accurate diagnosis of the problem and a discussion about the available treatment options.
To keep your rabbit's teeth and digestive system working properly, feed a diet of 75% hay, 20% fresh greens and only 5% dry food! This also works out much cheaper for you, as well as keeping your rabbit in tip-top condition! Ignore any advice to not feed greens until 6 months etc, these generally tend to be old wives' tales.
Fleas are common parasites in cats and modern, warm houses unfortunately mean that they are now active the whole year round. This coupled with the fact that the fleas found on your cat represent only the tip of the iceberg - for each adult flea on your pet there will be at least 20 developing in the environment - means that regular preventative treatment is essential to keep your pet and house flea free.
Dogs, cats and rabbits should be vaccinated annually and will be given a thorough clinical examination during their visit to ensure they are healthy. You will also be able to discuss any issues or worries you may have about your pet with a member of our clinical team. If you have had a vaccination with us you should automatically receive a reminder for the next one normally via text, email or post.
We strongly recommend that your cat is neutered. Apart from the obvious benefit of preventing unwanted pregnancies having your cat neutered reduces the risk of disease and can help prevent antisocial behaviour. Cats can be castrated or spayed from 4 months. Unfortunately ticks are extremely common in the countryside of North Devon and can potentially transmit infectious diseases.

It is very sad, but the South Molton branch are just not giving the good service that they used to. I know they are short staffed and have admitted to me that they cannot even take on new customers,.This is obviously why, some of the staff are tired & not giving a good attitude or service anymore. At the end of the day, my pets come first & it is imperative to me , they are well looked after. Another vets practice in South Molton that i have moved my pets to, give a much better service now.

When my little bun fell seriously ill and later passed away at the vets, they were absolutely fantastic from seeing us straight away to the heartbreaking phonecall. I later received a hand-written condolences card which was just so lovely. Always going the extra mile and caring for my rabbits with the utmost love, dedication and knowledge. I cannot thank them enough for what they did for my Nelson, but it was just his time.
