Milngavie Orthodontics
We relocated to our present purpose built premises in 2012. Our orthodontists have over 75 years of clinical experience between them- that is a lot of straight teeth over the years! Our orthodontists are supported by dedicated and highly trained nurses who keep the practice running smoothly. Our nursing staff are actively encouraged to sit further advanced exams to enhance their skills.

Many thanks for taking the time to visit our Website. We are a child and adult friendly clinic offering both NHS and private orthodontic care. Our team of Specialist Orthodontists have undertaken extensive post-graduate training after their dental training and are registered on the General Dental Council's list of specialists.
Services
To be eligible for NHS orthodontic treatment, your teeth need to be deemed "severe" enough to receive funding for the treatment. All orthodontists in the UK use an Index (Index of Orthodontic Treatment Need) which categorises your teeth into a 'number' to see whether you are eligible for treatment.
Alternatively, some patients do not wish to have the stainless-steel fixed appliances and opt for a more discrete method to align their teeth such as Invisalign or ceramic (tooth-coloured) appliances, these braces can only be provided if you are paying for the treatment yourself as they are not available on the NHS.
These braces are fixed onto the teeth, which means they cannot be removed. They deliver a force to the tooth via a wire which allows tooth movement to occur. The metal braces are mainly used for adults and children where treatment is funded through the NHS, they are very popular because the "colours" on the brace can be changed at each appointment.
These are mostly removable braces and are sometimes called 'block-braces'. They work in the growing patient to help posture the lower jaw forward so that the bite can be corrected. This can help to correct front teeth which are prominent. These braces need to be worn full time (removing only to eat and for sports) and treatment usually takes around 9-12 months.
It is normal to experience some discomfort within a few hours of having your brace fitted. This usually settles within a few days. Here are some useful tips to help look after your brace. Brush your teeth 2-3 times daily. You should always ensure your toothbrush bristles are pointing towards the gum to ensure the white-sticky substance (plaque) is effectively removed from your teeth.
