Services
Longfield Equestrian Centre has been at the heart of the riding community in Calderdale for over 40 years. The centre was first established in 1979 by dressage rider Christine Farnaby on her family farm. Whilst most of Middle Longfield Farm is now given over to horses, we are very proud of our prize-winning flock of Hampshire Down sheep.
Our horses and ponies at Longfield Equestrian have been specially chosen for their temperament and varied riding disciplines, ensuring children and adults of all riding abilities get the most from their lessons and development in a safe and fun environment. We have a selection of ponies from 12.2hh up to 16.2hh horses.
We tailored all our lessons to your needs, from learning the basics, building your skills and confidence to specialised competition training. Whether you want to pursue a career with horses or just want to improve your knowledge and skills, our training follows BHS qualifications. Open to all children age 4 to 21, the Pony Club is a great way to enjoy riding, learn about horses, take part in events, activities and have fun.
Our friendly, professional instructors are qualified up to BHSI level and regularly compete in affiliated competitions. This means we can ensure lessons are tailored to your needs, whether it is learning the basics, building your skills and confidence, or specialised competition training for dressage, jumping or showing.
Longfield is a Pony Club Centre, which means you can enjoy all the benefits of being a member of the Pony Club without owning your own pony! Open to all children age 4 to 21, joining the Pony Club is a great way to enjoy riding, learn about horses, take part in events and activities and have fun with other horse lovers of your own age.

Excited to get back in the saddle, I was told I didn't have a booking on arrival with the word NO about 10 times as I queried what had happened. The manager (assuming she was) didn't take any responsibility for their mistake which was just bizarre. I was in a bit of disbelief at her behaviour so I left. I'd driven a really long way and was prepared to do so weekly. What a waste of an afternoon.

I regret that I have to be posting this but me & my daughter's experience here at Longfield was not a good one. I came with my autistic daughter last Saturday hoping to have a lovely time and for a horse riding lesson. Unfortunately my daughter was very picky about the fact that she had to wear a helmet and refused to wear one despite myself &… the staff trying to encourage her otherwise.
Now, whilst I appreciate they (the staff) did try hard to make my daughter feel comfortable, I was left very upset and in fact in tears (a rarity for me I can tell you!) by what happened next -

Started riding again after a 30yr break and I love it here, all the staff make you feel welcome and are really friendly and don't make you feel stupid if you've forgotten something from the week before. As soon as my lesson is finished i can't wait until the next one. If you're thinking of coming here , do it you'll love it .

Aged 76 and not having ridden for 9 years due to a back injury but never having lost my love of riding, I approached taking up the reins again with some trepidation. However, I needn't have worried. Bailey was a perfect gentleman and my instructor had the patience of a saint. Once in the saddle, I was fine but mounting and dismounting presented a problem (and still does) and hopefully I will improve. Katie, my instructor, has a lot more confidence in me than I have. My visit to this establishment is the highlight of my week and she can't begin to believe how wonderful it feels to be on the back
