We are a small traditional family run bakers, situated in an early 17th century building in the market town of Uppingham, Rutland. The bakery has been passed down five consecutive generations of the Baines family and continues to produce quality bread, cakes, sandwiches and more, all of which are made on the premises using no additives or preservatives.
Services
It all began in 1867. Senior Baines (b.1845) from Barrow in Rutland went to London to learn the baking trade and on his return, at the age of 21, founded Baines Bakery on School Lane, Uppingham (now part of the music department at Uppingham School). His passion for the trade was passed on to his son Edward Senior Baines (b.1874-1953) and he carried on the running of the business in 1901.

Baines is an excellent family run bakery on the High Street of Uppingham. It’s always busy as the food is superb ! Once a week I will treat myself to a sausage & egg roll for breakfast.
They are delicious ! Their homemade soups are a must for winter lunchtimes, free of additives or preservatives, very tasty. Then there is the bread. Truly wonderful ! Baines loaves come in all types and sizes. Something for everyone.
Also treat yourself to a lovely piece of cake. My personal favourite is the lovely moist banana cake but if it has sold out, try the ginger cake instead. Amazing bakery, great staff

I am really disappointed.
I was expecting something really special after hearing about this place, but instead got dry fruit cake that crumbled to pieces (i prefer it rich and gooey, not dry and chalky), i should have known from the look of it to be honest, it was a dull brown rather than shiny sticky looking, but i thought id give it a go. What a waste of money, chucked it away after 1 mouthful. It was a tad expensive too (£1.50). Local lunchtime sarnie vans homemade cake is much better and only £1.20.
The cherry bakewell i also purchased was also very dry and not to my liking, wrong balance
