Coldharbour Mill Museum
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this closure but we will be back open at normal times from Wednesday 14th. Coldharbour Mill is one of the oldest woollen mills in the UK having been in continuous production since 1797. Originally owned by world-renowned textile producers Fox Brothers, the Mill took fleece from all over the world and transformed it into yarn, cloth and textiles.

Today the rich heritage lives on as one of the finest working wool museums where visitors are not just able to relive the sights and sounds of the industrial revolution but also see crafts men and women making traditional textiles, beautiful knitting yarn and hand woven rugs. Below you can read about our 2021 season, how we aim to keep you safe and some of the changes you will find on your visit.
Services
As a leading industrial heritage site, Coldharbour Mill's mission is to educate and inspire future generations. Our vision is to be innovative with our heritage in developing a relevant and sustainable future for Coldharbour Mill. There has been a mill at Coldharbour, Uffculme, since the time of the Domesday Book, with the current woollen mill in continuous production since 1797.
The small team of staff at Coldharbour Mill are dedicated to the Museum and the Estate, as well as the large number of connected projects which are continually ongoing. We are a small team, but with the help of our volunteers and trustees, we do our very best to create a sustainable and lasting future for the Mill on a local, national and international stage.
As a charity every penny counts with any money donated focused on maintaining the Mill complex and its precious heritage collections, allowing visitors to experience the sights and sounds of the industrial revolution forever. You can help Coldharbour Mill by leaving a gift in your Will.

We will in turn direct every penny towards maintaining the Mill complex and its precious heritage collections, allowing visitors to experience the sights and sounds of the industrial revolution forever. If you would like to discuss leaving a gift in your will or for more information please contact Martin Halse for more information on info@coldharbourmill.org.uk.
This exciting community wetland and woodland project aims to regenerate the Mill Pond area creating a wildlife haven & community space. With stage one of the project complete we are now seeking funding for the next stage of the Mill Pond Restoration & Community Space creation.

This area is already free for the local community, visitors, groups and schools to learn about this unique resource and explore the bio-diversity of the area but we plan to do much more. Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, staff, wildlife experts, our generous funders and the local community, the Mill Pond is now home to over 400 native trees for increased biodiversity.
By donating you are supporting us with the project work we do to preserve the mill. Donations of all values are very much appreciated and help to sustain the Mill and the charities aims. Becoming a member is a way of supporting the mill via an annual subscription - but you get many benefits in return like free entry to the Mill.

Excellent experience, highly recommended. There is no substitute for being next to the magnificent machinery when it is in full flow!
Without exception, all the volunteers here were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.
I definitely mean to return, preferably on a steam day!!!

What an amazing and interesting working museum this is, with steam & production days, craft & art events and informative guided tours giving an insight into the local wool & textile production's origins and history. There is a large free car park, a quality cafe & gift shop and almost every area has good access for people with disabilities. Well worth taking up the annual membership for a small additional cost to the day entry fee, as allows unlimited free visits including steam days for a year. We highly recommend visiting for either a family day out, or anyone with an interest into industrial

Great day spent here for a steam day event. The tour's are good and ran by volunteers. The mill is set in beautiful surroundings. Well worth a visit here if you are in the area. Good cafe on site with both indoor and outdoor seating. Picnic area also available with a children's play area located on site.

Was very quiet so gave us plenty of time to read all the information on each stage of the process. We declined the audio guide which was free of any additional charge. We enjoyed the coffee and cake in the little cafe bit the shop was a little disappointing with limited choice of items to purchase. An interesting morning out.

Very interesting and worth a visit to learn about our Industrial Heritage and the Industrial Revolution. Full entry rate charged despite the top floor not being open. Opportunities missed by staff for not having a fully equipped shop. Run by volunteers who do a good job, but the cafe doubles up as the shop. It would be nice to see carpets, shawls, anything for sale that was made on site. Also, this could be a massive opportunity to turn this into a working museum to share with children and school trips. Imagine the money you could make then from the sale of pencils, pens, rubbers, fridge magnets

Interesting working mill and if you want to see the machines in action go on a Thursday. Large free car park. We were a bit confused about where the ticket office was (in cafe) and the order about how you navigate the exhibits in the mill but we soon struck up a conversation with the volunteers who were very knowledgeable about their subject matter. On the day we visited the Boilers were being fired up so I ended up in another conversation about how a boiler got to the site from a London brewery. We finished our visit with coffee and a pasty in the cafe.

An excellent place to visit, even when there is no activity in the mill. Lovely surroundings, friendly staff and if you plan on going again a yearly pass is worth buying as you get your entrance fee back. £20 per person or £35 per couple. A great few hours spent, and we didn't see the walks, just the mill.

Lovely settings and a very interesting tour of a 'living' museum that produces wool to this day. Probably best to go on one of the days that the machines are working to make the fairly steep entrance fee worthwhile. The cafe served good pastys and cream teas.

Recommended on past experience as I know it can be a great day out. Today though, the cafe only had crisps or three slices of cake at 3.20 pm and the shop and museum were closed at 3.40 in spite of listing last entry at 4 and closing time of 4.30. Disappointing.

A lovely visit! So much information to take in and learn, both historical and technical, in a beautiful setting. Visiting with a wheelchair user we found the site almost 100% accessible with sensible ramps and lifts added where needed without spoiling the feel of the buildings. For crafters the fibre and yarn available in the shop are gorgeous and reasonably priced too.

Coldharbour Mill. SBP Team and our fellow Investigators, would like to thank WPI who are the Booking Agents, A hearfelt thank you. Your kindness and hospitality was second to known. Barbara Curtis your historical knowledge was impressive and well put. Now to the Mill. Hand on heart, this Mill is an absolute gem. The picture do not do this location… justice. The hire cost for originally 13 of us is completely tenable and so much cheaper than many other locations. Teams really need to book this and find out. It is just off the M5, so easy to get to, plus we must help preserve these locations

I really enjoyed my afternoon here (my first visit), it is a unique and beautiful place with a lovely atmosphere. I have a special interest, as my family for generations were involved in the textile industry in Yorkshire. My grandmother was a worsted spinner! It was fascinating to see the spinning machines in action, some dating from the 19th… century. It was a shame the mill/museum was SO quiet, there were only two of us there! It was a week day, but still school holidays. I feel this important historic site could do with a bit more publicity!
