Tiverton Museum Of Mid Devon Life
Explore the museum's large, outstanding collections and trace the fascinating history of Mid Devon. The displays include the 'Tivvy Bumper' GWR steam engine, local industries (particularly lace making), farm waggons and the history of agriculture, and the every day home life of Mid Devon folk. The museum is family friendly and offers a warm welcome to everyone.

There is a lively temporary exhibition programme - please look at the events page for further details. Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life is a treasure trove of fascinating objects and quirky artefacts that weave incredible stories about the people who lived here. The galleries show everything from lace making to laundry, bicycles to brewing and carts to costume.
Services
You will be able to choose a half hour time slot for your visit. Please arrive within this time slot; you can then stay in the museum as long as you like (the museum closes at 4pm). Have a look at our Visitor Safety page for more information about what we're doing to keep our visitors and volunteers safe.
You'll find play stations and interactive elements, including the chance to stand on the footplate of the Tivvy Bumper steam engine, around the galleries. Dress to Impress with our dressing up stations around the museum; the whole family can take part. Explorer backpacks (suitable for children of all ages) on a range of themes are available to borrow free of charge from the front desk.
We want everyone who visits the Tiverton Museum website to feel welcome and find the experience rewarding. To help us make the Tiverton Museum website a positive place for everyone, we've been using the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities, and user friendly for everyone.
Tiverton Museum of Mid Devon Life was started by a few energetic individuals concerned that many of the objects and much of the information about Tiverton and the surrounding areas would be lost if nothing was done to collect them in the rapidly changing post-war world. The museum is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (reg charity 1181976).
We ask that you use the hand sanitiser provided and try to limit unnecessary touching when browsing leaflets and take any leaflets that you do touch away with you. Face coverings must be worn in the centre unless you have an exemption. Tickets for the Tiverton Community Arts Theatre, East Devon Choral Society and the Theatre Royal in Plymouth.

Fascinating morning exploring my family history - the Jenkins family who lived at 16 Fore Street and ran the Co-op (I could add to the Fore street booklet if required). Just what a museum should be documenting social history and capturing a way of life now gone.

Fantastic Easter craft session today, the kids really engaged and enjoyed creating their masterpieces! 4 original craft ideas which the kids had fun making! Excellent value for money, a good hour spent creating. Thank you to all the staff and volunteers! We have attended most of these over the past few years and the children really enjoy them!

Fantastic place to visit. Very Educational and great value for money. Lots of different things to look at. My Favourite was sitting in the Anderson Shelter and listening to a recording of an Evacuee recount the journey he made. A must visit
