Originally founded by David Russell in 1986 to serve the eye care needs of families within Tiptree and the surrounding villages, David Russell Opticians has grown and expanded over the years. Our experienced and friendly opticians are committed to delivering the strong tradition of high quality family eye care, excellent customer service standards and attentive aftercare that David Russell Opticians has become known for.
Having an eye test is not just about how well you can see, it is also an important way to check the overall health of your eyes. By getting your eyes regularly tested, it can be possible to identify potential problems with your eyesight before you experience symptoms. It can even help to indicate other health issues such as raised blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Your eye examination appointment will take around 20-30 minutes depending on the number of different tests that your optometrist needs to perform. In addition to checking your vision, further examinations will be carried out to determine the health of your eyes and to look for any other potential symptoms of general health issues.
Ocular Coherence Tomography is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. Similar to ultrasound, but OCT uses light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers that make up the back of the eye. The OCT unit captures a digital photograph of the surface of the eye at the same time and this can then be cross referenced across any areas of concern.
Our contact lens opticians are experienced in fitting a wide range of contact lenses to suit your individual needs. You will be carefully guided through the entire process of contact lens wear and maintenance. It is recommended that those using contact lenses should have regular reviews to check both the health of the eyes and to ensure that their contact lenses continue to provide ultimate vision and comfort.

Having been working from home full time for many months I realised I needed glasses for computer work (DSE) and would need an eyesight test as mine was over 2 years old. David Russell Opticians were able to arrange all this during the current situation. Staff were very professional and special arrangements were in place to ensure the health of staff and customers. I decided to buy a new pair of my normal glasses as well especially as my eyesight had changed - getting better with age which I guess is a bonus! Having used both pairs of glasses for many weeks now I am very happy.

What an incredible opticians! - I was in a lot of pain and discomfort due to an injury (scratch to my eyeball). They fitted me in with a same day appointment and got seen within a couple of hours. Examined me and gave me appropriate treatment and literally feels better already... The staff were amazing! so friendly and welcoming. They were very thorough with so much knowledge explaining everything to me throughout. Would highly recommend! Thank you so much x

I visited recently for my first eye test and found the staff very welcoming upon arrival. The opictian I saw was very friendly and thorough. I was given good advice when choosing my frames and very happy with final choice.I have noticed a couple of bad reviews about the practice and strongly disagree as my overall experience was extremely professional.

Visited here for my yearly eye test, staff were polite and attentive as usual. There were loads of different frames to choose from, help was given to advise on which shape and style suited me. Very happy with the service which I get from this lovely independent optician, rather than just being a name and number from their bigger opposition. Will definitely be back next year for my next appointment.
