Sancton Wood is a small, independent family-oriented school, which has seen many hundreds of happy and successful children pass through its doors. The School was founded in 1976 as a primary school, by its first headmistress, Mrs Jill Sturdy (pictured below), and was housed at 9 Station Road, Cambridge.
Having a large family, including nine adopted children, Mrs Sturdy was fully aware of the emotional, spiritual and educational needs of children. She decided to open her own school because of her passionate desire to provide an educational establishment of excellence.

Sancton Wood nursery is housed in its own beautiful Victorian building which is perfect for nurturing and fostering relationships with our children and families. Sancton Wood Nursery aims to inspire each child to be the best that they can be within a nurturing, safe, happy and stimulating environment.
The Prep School is home to lively and inquiring minds, and is a place where intellectual curiosity is part of every day. From Reception to Y6, children are taught in small class sizes where the individual is seen and valued. Recognising the worth of each person, we ensure that each child has targets and support to help them achieve their potential.
Our Senior School's aim is to develop young people who are knowledgeable, caring and successful with bright, enquiring minds. We want our students to have a positive approach to life, to broaden their horizons and to value the chance to think and study independently. We are proud of the success we have in securing Sancton Wood students the best grades possible and the opportunity to make exceptional progress.
We are a co-educational, independent school in the heart of Cambridge. Spread across three sites, all within walking distance of each other, the railway station and the city centre itself. We provide an outstanding learning journey for students aged 9 months to 16 years.

From my experience as a parent of a child who was a student at Sancton Wood, this is a school with the pastoral care of its students at its heart. This was never more apparent than during the the Covid-19 pandemic. When compared to the experience of other families at other schools nearby, it is clear that the staff at Sancton Wood went above and beyond to ensure that the children continued to learn, and enjoy learning, despite the upheaval to the school year during the pandemic.
But then, this is not a surprise. Throughout our child's time at Sancton Wood, their wellbeing and education was always

I have two kids at Sancton Wood. It's a brilliant school. In contrast to some of the more pompous schools in Cambridge, it is down-to-earth and friendly, yet does a great job of helping young folk learn stuff. Their approach during lockdown has been exemplary. Massive credit to Richard Settle and all of his team. And no, I'm not on a retainer to say nice things about the place!
