Even in these days of ubiquitous central heating, a house does not seem like a home without a hearth. Whether used for warmth or simply for its aesthetic value, a beautiful fireplace is always a focal point, an imposing presence that lends architectural elegance to its surroundings.
Founded in 1974, Acquisitions began life as an architectural antiques business but soon specialised in rescuing beautiful antique fireplaces that had been evicted from their home in the name of fashion. As suitable originals became scarcer, we set about the ambitious task of replicating Victorian cast-iron fireplaces, and were proud to lead the way in restoring the period mantelpiece to its rightful place in the British public's consciousness.

Services
We welcome enquiries from architects and interior designers and offer a comprehensive service. At Acquisitions we take care of everything from original design of your fireplace right through to installation. We can produce non-standard fireplaces to order, and faithfully reproduce and restore antique designs.
Our collection of traditional fireplaces includes elegant mantels in English marble, French marble, English stone, cast iron and bespoke marble, as well as a wide selection of grates, cast-iron panels and inserts. We recommend that owners of listed buildings contact the conservation officer at their local authority for advice when considering work on a fireplace at their property.
The Acquisitions collection of contemporary fireplaces has been designed for the homeowner who has real-fire aspirations but wishes to avoid the constraints of a traditional surround. The designs are minimalist in character yet sit beautifully in almost any environment, be it a period house or a modern loft apartment.
Our new, highly energy-efficient balanced flue X-FIRES are so versatile they can be easily installed in virtually any room. Designed purposely for their state of art simplicity. Where there is no chimney, these contemporary models can be fitted via any suitable internal or external wall and roof space.
Classically restrained, beautifully proportioned and faithfully reproduced from original drawings, our English-style marble chimneypieces strike a note of timeless good taste. Their more flamboyant French-inspired counterparts lend a touch of courtly grandeur to any setting. We use the best-quality stone to guarantee the finest-possible detail, and finish every one of these objects of desire by hand.

Dealing with Acquisitions has been a total disaster from start to end. Their initial installation design included cutting through all of the joists in an upstairs bedroom wall (meaning the wall would have collapsed). The gas fire we paid several thousands of pounds for has not worked consistently in any of the three years since we bought it and we have had a different (independent, sub-contracted) fitter each time we have had a problem during subsequent customer service. Look elsewhere to avoid expensive disappointment.

I called about a stove installation, saying clearly I was buying the stove myself secondhand and that was urgent. Lady on the other side asked many informations including the model of the used stove and finally asked me to email photos and details, fair enough. I sent the email, it took a while to take all photos and measures requested. Then no answer. After 36 hours I've called again, and the man on the line said they just don't install anything they're not selling themselves. Cool, what about saying at first? or answering the email at least...after all this they replied to the email, and said

They seem like they know what they are doing and they do! but they are con artists.
Their fireplaces look only vaguely like the brochures, you get simpler, knock-off versions when you buy.
If you need a design modified, they will be happy to charge you extra only to send you their standard size so you have to change your hearth etc.
Both these things happened to me, plus they were generally lying to me and delayed me for many months until the fireplace arrived packaged from abroad, most likely China.

Recently purchased another fireplace surround from this lot ... and its been one issue after another. dont recall this amount of trauma and drama the last time around - perhaps its the people there now - absolutely clueless. delayed delivery, delayed installation, additional costs for installation, unanswered calls and emails, ... its completely hopeless - all with a snarky attitude to the client (ME!) i would steer clear until they get a new sales team that know what they are doing. great treatment for a repeat customer !!!

We contracted acquisition fireplaces limited to design, supply and implement a new fireplace and flue in conjunction with other building work that we were doing. They were great to start with in working with us to come up with a design for the fireplace, however, from then on working with them was a nightmare. They repeatedly cancelled appointments to fit the flue and then to fit the fireplace, delaying the work that we wanted to do and failing to keep us in the loop. When they finally did install the fireplace they implemented a design which was not in any way similar to that which had been agreed
