Services
Using old images, this walk will take you on a tour of the west side of Congleton. We will look at how this area of the town has changed over the past 100 years from large Georgian Mansions set in private gardens to rows of terraced cottages and modern housing estates. Reserve your place online with a free ticket and pay on the door.
Our Gift shop is in the reception area, you can buy all the museum's publications as well as a selection of local history books, pictures, craft items and souvenirs. The museum is fully accessible for people with disabilities. There is a ramp up to the entrance, a wheelchair lift on the stairs, large toilet and a hearing loop available for talks and walks.
Group Visits of 6 or more by appointment only at a charge of 3.50 per head for activities. There are a few parking spaces outside, including one disabled space. Ample low cost parking is available in the Town Centre from 50p per hour to 1.00 for 2 and 4 hours. The nearest car park is the Fairground in Market Street, opposite Morrisons supermarket, about two minutes walk.
If you have time to spare, perhaps you could help us out in some way, and pay for your membership with your time. We need people to staff our reception desk during opening hours, do research, do administrative work, transcribe old documents, register new acquisitions, help with refreshments at events, construct exhibitions - the tasks are endless.
Join Congleton Museum on our fascinating heritage walks and discover little known facts about Congleton. All walks start at 2pm at the Museum, which is situated behind the Town Hall. Cost is 6 per person which includes a cream tea or 3.50 for Friends of the Museum. Tours of the museum or themed history walks around the town can be arranged for groups of 10 - 30 people either during or outside normal opening hours.

Congleton Museum is a really good little place to visit, its very quaint and can fill a couple of hours of anybody's time, there is one room downstairs which has got alot of stories about the history of congleton and waxwork figures telling stories of who they were and what happened in their time, there are also sliding boards with life size paintings on them of characters telling different stories of what they did for jobs in their time, really friendly staff who gladly explained what there was to do and see.
Upstairs there are old photos of congleton showing how its evolved over the years and more

Excellent town museum with plenty of history on show. The coin hoards are a must see, something not even the large city museums can surpass. The upstairs exhibition contains a history of old buildings in the town Plus now a 3500 years old Bronze age sword. Easily worth £5 in the donations box for what's on show.

I have friends nearby who've lived in congleton over 10yrs and havent been there. Only saw a temp sign on a lamp post by chance. It's a fantastic place for anyone to visit. Free to enter, but donations appreciated. Great interactive displays. Well thought out and laid out. Great for tourists too if you have a spare harf hour. Use it whilst its there.
Even with volunteer staff, it's the type of place that local authorities close to balance the books.
Desperately needs a finger post at the end of the road.
No baby changing facilities, but cafe's nearby.

A small museum in the heart of Congleton where you can spend some time exploring what is on offer. From the moment you walk in and have a brief chat with the friendly staff on duty you begin your experience. There are plenty of exhibits on display with accompanying information where possible. There are two floors to explore with artifacts on view as you walk up the staircase and along the short corridor. They have so many pieces of interest that not all is on show but hopefully they will move soon to larger premises in Bradshaw House. Donations are welcome as you leave after having immersed yourself
