The staff were friendly, efficient, and attentive without being overbearing which just topped off the visit and made it so so enjoyable. We highly recommend this really exquisite establishment and will definitely be visiting again. This is the English pub experience at its very best, good beer and great food with a very warm and friendly welcome.
Beautiful pub and a gorgeous location, really friendly helpful staff - I chose the fish pie and my husband the homemade chicken pie. Wow! Absolutely delicious, I would go as far as saying the best fish pie I have ever eaten and a really generous portion, well filled! All in all a brilliant visit, excellent food and we would highly recommend - keep hold of that Chef! Thank you we had a lovely afternoon!

Had Sunday lunch yesterday and it was excellent. Lovely ambience when we walked in and huge log fire was lovely. Staff were excellent throughout with prompt and friendly service. Food was very tasty I had the roast pork and it was very tender and very lean. The other meals, roast beef and venison ragu, were also excellent.
No hesitation in recommending this and we will definitely return.

We happened to have a couple of hours to kill in Saffron Walden today. So checked out trip advisor for places to eat. This pub had great reviews so booked a table. So glad we did - gorgeous starters of pigeon… and hubby had scallops, followed by the most gorgeous rib of beef roast, it was melt in the mouth. Lovely staff and the fire was on. We ended the meal with a game of pool! Would definitely recommend and we will go again.

This really is a hidden gem. It must be one of the best, most authentic pubs around, owned and ran by people who have real passion for what they do. It is that incredibly rare combination of being owned and ran by friendly and sincere people who care about what they do, with really tasty food, interesting real ales and beers all wrapped into an unspoiled rustic and characteristic village pub. Simply superb. The whole package is an absolute credit to the owners.

Amazing staff. Food was average, but the prices were embarrassing. £7.5 for 1/4 corn and literally 5 tiny dry chickpeas... the food was obviously cooked from frozen (what happens to the other 3/4 corn?). £15 for a 'main' (also tiny). For 2 people you will 100% spend at least £60 for a 2 course meal. Other than that, it's a lovely place to enjoy the sun.

Possibly the friendliest pub I have ever been to. All the staff are friendly and warm in their dealings with customers. I got a bit lost on a long bike ride and happily found the Fleur de Lys (it is a little hard to spot from the direction I was riding in). The roasts look delicious, unfortunately I already had one cooking so went for the excellent fish and chips. It is prepared with skin on chips which give a quite a bit of extra flavour. My low alcohol IPA was as nice a low alcohol beer as I have had. For normal boozers the selection is also comprehensive, specialist ciders, beers and decent
