East Anglia Transport Museum
At Carlton Colville we have one of the widest ranges of preserved vehicles of any museum, and further exhibits are still accepted from time to time. Find out about the only place in the British Isles where visitors can not only view, but also ride on all three principal forms of public transport from the earlier part of the 20th Century.

The museum is staffed entirely by volunteers who give up their time to bring alive the sights and sounds of the past. We think that we have included all the important stuff that you will need to plan a visit to see us at our site just a couple of miles from Lowestoft - England's most easterly town.
Services
Here you can see a unique project; the creation of a museum of street transport designed to show the development of mechanical transport over the best part of a century.

The essence of transport is movement, so we are building a living museum where vehicles of yesteryear can be seen in action, where half-forgotten sounds of the past are brought back to life and where visitors can journey back in time by travelling on a few of the exhibits along the Museum's streets.
If you wish to contact us with an enquiry then there are a number of ways that this can be done. Please remember, however, that we are a purely voluntary society with no paid staff whatsoever and therefore we may not reply to your letter, email or telephone call straight away. However, we will do our best to come back to you as soon as we are able and hope that you will be able to bear with us.
Do you allow dogs on site? Yes, well behaved dogs are very much welcomed, we even provide a drinking bowl, or two, for them. All we ask is that they are kept on their lead and do not enter the Cafe or Shop. You can, with consideration for others, bring them on the vehicles too. Do you hire your vehicles out?
Are you a UK Tax Payer? If so, then by turning your admission fee today# into a DONATION on which we can claim GIFT AID, we will give you a season ticket that you can use for FREE RETURN VISITS anytime over the next 12 months!* All we need from you is a signed declaration that can be filled in quickly whilst entering the museum.
Join us for our annual transport extravaganza where every available vehicle in our fleet will be running, with the added excitement of after dark rides on Saturday evening until 9pm where the museum takes on a very special atmosphere under the streetlights. No tricks - just treats, but there's some spooky goings on around the site with a free witch hunt for the children with a prize for every child.

A wonderful step back in time with a great selection of public transport from years gone by. The volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable with most of a cheery nature.
We managed to ride on three different trams, miniature railway and two trolley buses, all of which were in lovely condition and which the volunteers knew plenty about. There were plenty of other buses and a couple of steam engines on show.
There is a small shop with nice knick knacks including some home made craft items.
There is a small cafe on site with hot drinks, a small selection of cakes and chips (Important on a winters

There is lots to love about this place. Very interesting to look around the exhibitions and it's great to be able to ride the train, bus and trams.
The site is very well maintained. Clean and tidy facilities, nice picnic areas. You've got to try the tasty chips from the cafe or a delicious slice of cake. I did both 😁
This place is run by a team of volunteers and they should be very proud of their work.

A delightful museum to visit with enthusiastic staff. We loved the bus and tram rides - so nostalgic. We've already recommended it to our friends and a return visit is already on the cards.

Absolutely brilliant family afternoon out. We went for the Halloween event. Myself mother on law wife and daughter (2) had plenty to keep us entertained. A nice relaxed approach steping back in time from the minute you enter. It was a bit like spending the afternoon with your favourite grand parent.

What a find. Check the opening times before heading off.
Great working exhibits with tram, light train & trolley bus rides all included in the very reasonable entrance price. Elsie the pre war taxi is 50p per person, a real bargain.
Run by volunteers who are all enthusiastic, knowledgeable & friendly.
Craft gifts for sale to help with the running costs.
A refreshing change from tourist traps that just want your money.
Will definitely be back.

A very nostalgic visit as I remember being taken on a red trolly bus in London with my Auntie and my husband travelled on a tram on the last day they ran in England. Run by very knowledgeable gentlemen, thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, just a shame we had no kiddies with us as I know they would have loved it
