My personal decision to take up Kung FU some twenty years ago has completely changed my life from a self-defence perspective but also in my responses to every-day situations. This system is deeply traditional and extremely effective with self-defence and personal development at its core. I look forward to welcoming you to the club and help you in achieving true enlightenment.

The decision to take up martial arts is not easy, I hope the pages on this site go someway to demystify Kung Fu and also detail what we at the academy spend our time studying. Please feel free to contact us for more information.

The Purbeck Academy of Shaolin Kung Fu is an effective system of traditional martial arts based on the "five animals". At the Academy, the primary application is for practical self-defence situations whilst helping build self-confidence, physical fitness, flexibility and dexterity of thought through an in-depth understanding of movement and technique.
Below are some testimonials. I started The Purbeck Academy of Shaolin Kung Fu a few months ago, looking to build up my fitness and learn a martial art. There are lots of martial art styles to choose from, but I felt that Kung Fu represented a very wide range of skills through self - defence including the use of weapons like knives, blunt instruments, hand guns, staff and chucks.
The grading structure at the Purbeck Academy is used to determine levels of teaching for students and as a point for students to review their progress within the system. The gradings are performed under the guidance of the instructors but there is no pressure to grade. As with any good martial art we want students to develop at there own pace.
Venomous snakes are possibly the most dangerous animals on the planet, considering how lethal they can be compared to their size. Because of this, Nature has balanced things by providing many of them with distinctive mechanisms, like bright-coloured scales, the cobra's hood, or the rattlesnake's rattle.
To some, the crane is the epitome of grace. In a fight, it prefers to stay away from toe-to-toe confrontations that might be more suited to a tiger or leopard. Instead, the crane uses its long legs and powerful wings to angle away from an opponent, striking with its wings and beak when an opportunity presents itself.
