Sam's at St Ann's: The Pop-Up Chop House is now open! Serving draught beers, fresh cooked food, , sommelier selected wines and fantastic live music from local acoustic musicians. Help us re-open: visit Sam's at St Ann's. Sam's Chop House was established in 1868 by Samuel Studd, brother to Thomas Studd of Mr Thomas's Chop House.
For over 150 years we have served the heart of Manchester with the very best of British food and drink. Though our owners are no longer the Studds, we are still an independent family business. And we love this city.

Services
Sam's has real charm - it seems old-fashioned but not to the point of quaintness. The food is honest, locally inspired and if you can dodge the tram excavations and get a seat next to Mr Lowry at the bar you will have a good time.'
The chips are how chips should be, big and fat, piping hot with a light, frothy interior' 'If anywhere is the perfect food for Autumn, it's Sam's Chop House, with its cosy Victorian interior and gut-busting comfort food, it makes even the wettest of wet Wednesdays a joy and makes you feel nostalgic for a bygone era.'It doesn't offer retiring rooms for overstuffed diners, but it should.

Over the past few days we've had a lot of enquiries and questions about why Sam's hasn't reopened despite the easing of restrictions. And about when we will reopen. In order to secure the future of Sam's Chop House and Cavendish House, the building in which we stand, we have come to an agreement with our landlords to support renovations and improvements to the building.
While our landlords over at Cavendish House on Back Pool Fold work to make Sam's bigger and better than ever, we've got a little flavour of Sam's for you over on St Ann's Square. Sam's at St Ann's is our pop-up Chop House, serving freshly cooked food, cold draught beer, stunning wines chosen by our sommeliers, and live music.
A highlight is homemade corned beef hash topped with smoked bacon, eggs and parsley - a wonderful dish well able to stand alongside feggatini alla Veneziana, the classic version from Venice's Harry's Bar. It is simply wonderful. We have many imitators but can justifiably claim to have made this humble British classic a staple of the city of Manchester.

Mrs Katherine Lawrence is a wonderful real binary manager. She was able to help me investment and make profit quickly and with ease. Mrs Katherine Lawrence that every person involved in the deal was treated with respect and kindness. I appreciate Mrs Katherine Lawrence attention to detail - she really went the extra mile for me. I had 4 different… real investment and had no luck. Mrs Katherine Lawrence was able to help grow my investment in 5 days. I would be happy to work with Mrs Katherine Lawrence again in the future and I recommend her to anyone who is looking for a real investment manager

Lovely food and service. We were missing couple of items from our order when it arrived, but when I let the team know that, I was given a partial refund for the items that were missing and I was offered another meal for free as an apology with a free bottle of wine and puddings for each of our meals. The sticky toffee pudding was a little taste of heaven. Definitely recommend.

I've ordered Sam's Chop House a couple of times now on Deliveroo and the experience really has changed from good quality food, to not as good. I really do think I've caught them more than once at an odd day and the food is generally quite good.
My recent order of the bacon chop restored my faith in the restauraunt, it was a high-quality, perfectly cooked chop of meat. The peppercorn sauce style gravy made it even better, again fresh with freshly cooked and seasoned chips.
They also serve some of the best gluten-free fish and chips I've tried.
There are occasionally issues

I was after a good fish and chips and this place was recommended and I have to say it delivered!
Great food. The fish was so fresh and the chips was really hand made, so no frozen garbage! So you can expect to see the effect on the taste.
My wife was not that hungry so she ordered a side salad and the restaurant was nice enough to bring a huge salad at the same price.
This is what I call customer service!! Well done.

First time back in months, and was raving about this place last time I reviewed it. The service has gone right down the drain, only a few good staff left and others are lacking basic training.
They need to clamp down on the smoking in the alley next to entrance as having waiters or waitresses serve you stinking of smoke and the image of them smoking in a dark alley whole they serve you isn't pleasant.
The food was once amazing but now its just a over average quality with a price tag. It doesn't even feel right eating for the sake of eating when there is no love coming out of the food.
The wow

A really good British restaurant that's been around for a year or two!
A really tempting and meat heavy menu. Devilled liver on toast and corned beef hash ate specialities.
Apparently there is a vegetarian option, but that's not why you'd come.
Meat, meat and more meat with a side of onion rings and chips.

I had an excellent Sunday lunch at Sam's Chophouse. The restaurant was really quaint and I loved the traditional feel of it. There was a big selection of different roast meats with all the trimmings but I opted for the vegetarian wellington. This turned out to be a good choice as the veggies wrapped in pastry were delicious and the mustard sauce that accompanied it was incredibly tasty. The Yorkshire pudding that my friend had with her roast was massive and the meat was very tender. The service was friendly but as the Sam's was so busy we did have to wait a while for our food to arrive

I love the Manchester Chop Houses - Sam's, Tom's and the most recent addition, Albert's are all fabulous, traditional British pubs and serve amazing traditional British grub to go along with it.
This was my first visit to Sam's for food, as Neil C. and I had spent some time wandering around the City on Sunday with my Sister and Niece we really fancied a good old Sunday roast and we just knew that one of the Chop Houses would be perfect.
It wasn't overly busy for a late Sunday afternoon so we managed to get a table straight away - always a bonus when you're hungry

Iconic Sam's Chop House held a night of fine dining and wine matching last night, hosted by Chateau Musar's Ralph Hochar and the charming George Bergier of Victorian Chop Houses. 5 courses, 5 matched wines, £50. What a deal for quality of this level. My taste buds are still rejoicing, and here's why:
Located on Back Pool Fold off Cross Street, the evening is set in the dining room of one of Manchester's most venerable buildings. The intimate and friendly group of roughly 20 food and wine enthusiasts settled into the evening with canapés and a delightfully fruity Musar Jenne

Old work style pub (actually hasn't been around that long) situated in basement of old Victorian warehouse (below Chaophraya) with stone flagged floor.
Pricey beer but good selection with sit down restaurant at rear, which unfortunately for eaters you have to put up with drinkers walking through to access toilets.
Great atmosphere an gets packed in an evening.
Traditional British food, the Manchester Sharing platter for two makes a great lunch.

An absolute Manchester classic, Sam's Chophouse is everything you'd expect and more from a traditional, critically-acclaimed British institution. The antique decor, stripped wood, leather booths and tiled flooring makes it so cosy and welcoming, and the staff obviously love working in such an historic establishment.
You can taste the quality of the dishes here, and considering everything is made fresh to order, I really don't mind paying between £12-15 for some of the best British food you can get in this town. Homemade Steak & Kidney Pudding, Beef Wellington and Slow-roast
