Tom's Chop House
Mr Thomas's Chop House was established in 1867 by Thomas & Sarah Studd, brother to Samuel Studd of Sam's Chop House. For over 150 years we have served the heart of Manchester with the very best of British food and drink. Though our owners are no longer the Studds, we are still an independent family business. And we love this city.
Services
A highlight is homemade corned beef hash topped with smoked bacon, eggs and parsley - a wonderful dish well able to stand alongside feggatini alla Veneziana, the classic version from Venice's Harry's Bar. It is simply wonderful. We have many imitators but can justifiably claim to have made this humble British classic a staple of the city of Manchester.

This is a great bar, the staff are so friendly and it has a top atmosphere. They will go that extra mile to help you. The food is great and the drinks are reasonably priced for Town.

Very traditional English chophouse. I feel transported in the past and that’s what we were looking for

Okay, there's two things about this place I find golden, one being the food which is simply divine, and the second being the old rustic feel and layout with its cosy and bustling atmosphere.
The only couple of things which have bugged me slightly the few times I've been in is the service can be a bit hit or miss, depends on who is looking after you. The other thing is the roast Sunday dinner charges a hefty £5+ for things like Cauliflower cheese added on, which I find to be extortionate. Id rather pay a bit more and have all the trimmings, but not over a fiver for one extra thing.
That being

Generally a very nice experience here. Excellent choice of ale and the food is hearty goodness (their corned beef hash is a highlight).
One star off is because I just got charged £2.75 for less than half an orange juice out of a cheap carton. I could have gotten beer cheaper.

Called in on a sunny afternoon for a drink. We were given a very warm welcome by the staff who showed us to a table, we preferred to sit inside and we were presented with a beautiful period setting, immaculately kept and very very clean. Service was excellent and didn't have to wait long on a busy day. Table service was in place to avoid contact and observe social distancing. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely return.

Best onion rings and iron steak I had so far. I went here for work lunch. Food was great and make sure you have time because the food takes time. Iron steak came with a butter garlic sauce which was amazing. Place does get crowded during lunch on weekdays. We made a reservation ahead of time. Venue is a bit congested so I would not suggest this for large groups. Definitely going back.

Stoped in by chance my last night in England. I was not disappointed by the original decor. The wait staff was friendly and very helpful. Everybody in my party enjoyed all the food and the extensive wine list. Don't forget dessert or cheeseboard. Recommend this for everyone

My friends and I were visiting from America and my colleague had said Mr Thomas was a pub worth visiting. We ordered their PIE & FISH/CHIPS along with their RICE PUDDING, CRUMBLE, and their STICKY TOFFEE. Everything was amazing as we had hoped it would be. The service was great, and the food was amazing. We left the restaurant really needing to take that walk home. ENJOY!

Our experience here was nothing short of surreal, from the moment we walked in. We came for the decor, and we were not disappointed. Walking in, you feel like you are taking a step back in time. The tiling on the floor and walls is gorgeous, and the restaurant has really tried to maintain some of the original features. As a group, we kept trying to pinpoint exactly what movie or television show we were reminded of sitting in the restaurant, and ultimately decided it fell somewhere between "The Great Gatsby" and "Mad Men".

The menu was expansive, and offered something for everyone

It was sunny, and we understand how short British summers could be so we decided we decided to fill up our belly's and our vitamin D quota simultaneously.

The beer garden (not really a garden, but its outside) is pretty lovely, partially in the shade of a church, with boulders sponsored cushions and blankets in bright colours scattered on the seats. We were seated prompts, and when for the lunch time deal to save some pennies, but the standard menu is pretty extensive.
I fancied a burger, and Jess, the bangers and mash, they came out fairly quickly, just long enough for my friend to demonstrate

Had a really lovely salad - corned beef, potatoes, pickled veg, poached egg on dressed mixed greens. Was a good place to get a relaxing casual dinner, but with higher end food. Service was kind, prompt, and offered me suggestions when asked. I wish I had more of an appetite, because the puddings looked delicious.

I ate here on a Thursday night at 2030, so it wasn't too busy in the dining area (about half full), with several people in the bar. Would definitely return.

Mr Thomas's Chop House is to older male relatives what Mr Cooper's House and Garden is to older female relatives: perfect. Actually I found it pretty perfect too. We shared a tasty starter of whitebait and corn beef hash then I had bubble & squeak for my main, while my dad & friend tried the Manchester Steak (which is kind of like a very advanced burger) and my sis had regular steak and some excellent giant chips. Everyone liked their food and enjoyed the beautiful Victorian setting. We also enjoyed the house red, a cabernet sauvignon. Service was attentive and friendly.

Highly

I went to the Chop House today having read their good reviews on Yelp, and with me looking for a new Gluten Free resturant that would replace TEA4/2 as my go to place for breakfast in the city centre. Unfortunatly, my search goes on.

I rang up this place to see if their Corned Beef Hash was Gluten Free, the man checked with the chef and told me it was, hence this is what I ordered. I was quite confused when I got to this bar, as the back enterance was closed, I thought the restaurant was shut hence I had to phone them back, the woman was talking in a way, like I was stupid, saying this is a resturant
