A good antique longcase clock is a wonderful thing. Made many years ago by highly skilled craftsmen who knew that with the right care, their work would last for many generations to come. A clock is at one and the same time an heirloom, a fascinating piece of social history, a friend for life, and when working properly, a very useful and accurate timekeeper.
Fine and magnificent longcase clock by John Ellicott of London c1750, in an impressive Cuban mahogany case. The 7 pillar 3 train fortnight going movement, has a Graham dead beat escapement, and chimes on a nest of 8 bells. The fine dial has a revolving moon with moon calendar under, strike/silent, and date subsidiary dials in the arch.
I am a keen amateur violinist and sometime guitar and mandolin player, and have been interested in music and instruments all my life. I have restored many instruments over the years, including violins, guitars, mandolins, banjos, and piano cases, but violins are my biggest passion. Andrew Row is an amazingly skilled restorer. He has restored many pieces of furniture for me, they look fabulous after receiving the Andrew touch! He is brilliant at getting clocks to go and keep time. Nothing is too much problem for him, he recently has sourced and replaced the convex glass on an antique dial clock dropped by my husband. The repair is perfect. Thank you Andrew
