Sitting in Betty's in Harrogate with his wife, Colin Barrell passed comment that 'this would work well in Taunton'. Beware the throw-away line! 3 years later after selling his McDonald's franchise, Colin had found the premises and the right business partner.
Having decided what would work in Taunton, Colin approached the highly regarded local Tea blenders and Coffee Roasters DJ Miles & Co Ltd of Porlock with the idea of opening a Tea Rooms with them.Colin, a Minehead lad, after 27 years serving customers as part of the McDonald's organisation, knew he had the skills to put the operation in place but needed the expertise of Miles to deliver the coffee and tea experience he wanted.

Services
My work in London had been tasting teas, inspecting teas and selling tea on the market. But in 1961 I decided to leave the city and buy a small shop in Minehead, which I ran for about twelve months. During that time I had continued my contacts with the Tea Trade, and on one of my visits to my old firm, my ex-employer suggested I could travel to Avonmouth once or twice a week and inspect the teas which were increasingly being landed there.
Sit back and enjoy a selection of finger sandwiches, savoury nibbles, homemade scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam and homemade cakes and sweets, all served on a three tiered stand with house tea or coffee. We can even cater for specific dietary requirements (vegetarian, gluten free etc) To make it extra special you can even add a bottle of Prosecco.
One word comes to mind when you think about our shop at Mr Miles Tea Rooms - 'Emporium'. Whether it's our amazing range of quality ceramics and fine bone china, tea pots and giftware or our loose leaf teas and coffee beans it just shouts tradition. Very often you will be drawn up Taunton's High Street by the wafting aroma of roasting coffee.
We stock a huge array of freshly roasted coffees and skillfully blended teas. Many of our coffees are roasted on our premises in our state of the art roaster. This allows us to roast small amounts of speciality coffees from Kopi Luwak (Civit cat coffee) to Kenya AA and the Champagne of coffee, Jamaica Blue Mountain.
Click and Collect and Pre-Orders can be collected Monday to Sunday between 9.30am and 1.30pm. Payment will be taken on collection. You will be sent a confirmation email when your order is ready to collect. If you cannot see the product you are looking for, please email us at info@mr-miles.co.uk and we will do our best to help.

Had coffee and Welsh Rarebit here along with my wife who had coffee and Painni.
It was the only cafe with a cover outside where we could take our dog to avoid the rain showers.
Service was excellent and the coffees good
Only issue was my Welsh Rarebit was only one slice and I expected two and they added bacon when I asked for none.
Prices are on the high side as well as but they looked after our dog with some water and cuddles so I kind of looked over that.
