A very pleasant stay for a 3☆ hotel. The room was very clean. Bed and duvet was comfortable. The reception staff were very friendly and made us feel welcome. Only issues was thin walls which meant that some kids running around at 7am woke us up, and the housekeeping knocking on our door quite early, before we managed to get out of bed... out fault for not putting up the do not disturb sign the night before I guess. Bed side lamp didn't turn on.

Just had 2 nights in the california and I must say its a lovely hotel, very nice rooms, nice en suites and has a flat screen TV and teas, coffee and water available in the room. Its also very close to St Pancreas station and the underground, making it great to get around. Only bad thing I would say is about getting up to date TVs so ypu can log into things like netflix or screen mirror.
We booked this hotel through booking.com who I must say complicate things and caused us a lot of issue, bad review for them. This was a minimoon we was on for a few nights and booking.com cancelled my booking whilst

Do not stay here- they make up lie after lie to ensure they are able to scam their way out of things. The breakfast is a joke and and really expensive for what it is, you can get better and more anywhere else in London. The toilet barely worked, there was no hot water on one of the days.
After After first morning breakfast I was so shocked by what you got that I asked if we could be refunded for the second morning and not have it. We did not have it and now they are refusing a refund. They are using every excuse and out right lying to ensure I don't get my money back.

Funky (in a good way) small room, in a cozy hotel. As others have posted, be aware there is no elevator, and a narrow staircase.
I was very comfortable in my second floor room, and got a real kick out of the unusual bed (supported on pipes which allow it to be raised up and lowered from near the ceiling, in order to use the bed area as a sitting area when not sleeping)

Modest but interesting👌The hotel is a combination of several tenements so walking on it is like visiting Hogwarts😃 Several staircases, stairs up and down ... a real maze. The weakest is the lack of a lift and narrow corridors, but other than that there are only pluses 😁 Bar open 24/7, internal quiet terrace, very good location, friendly staff. Fantastic location right next to Kings Cross and St. Pancras from where is a connection to every corner of London. Shops, bars and restaurants within easy reach... for a short stay just right!

Great and friendly staff.
I'm definitely going back to stay there when I go back to London.
Rooms are clean. Good location, especially if you use public transport a lot.
The room I was staying was a bit small (bathroom) and after the couple of days I was staying the breakfast was a bit plain. Bit of fruit would be nice or some porridge :)

I love this hotel! The management and staff are very friendly, the front desk operates 24x7, the rooms are crisply decorated, clean, and pleasant. The location is just steps from Kings Cross/St. Pancras. There's a very good restaurant too! As small hotels near London train stations go, this can't be beat.

Don't do it! We learned the hard way. Despite this location being quite central and easy to access many parts of the greater London area being near Kings Cross/Pancras, the hotel itself leaves quite a little to be desired. Meaning that there is tons of room for improvement.
Yeah, the staff was nice and friendly upon checking in. But it all went kind of downhill after that. The room was tiny which we expected, after all we are in Europe and had that expectation. But it was nothing like most of the images we saw. The bathrooms were funky and incredibly small with the shower in ours quite difficult

The California is definitely not your typical hotel. It's unique, trendy, and helps with your homesickness since it's called "The California" (and only applicable if you're from California....)
This hotel was definitely one of the more affordable hotels near the Eurostar so that's a big plus. Location is convenient and there are restaurants and convenience stores within walking distance.
One interesting aspect of this hotel is that every room has a unique layout and looks completely different. Half of my party stayed in 1 room and the other half stayed in another

We just stayed here last week while we were visiting London and had an early train to catch at St Pancras Station.
The only pros about the California were:
+ location across the street from St Pancras International--very easy to stay here if you have an early morning Eurostar train like we had or if you'll be arriving very late. Also near to the British Library and within walking distance to the Wellcome Collection.
+ great breakfast included (hot and cold items)
Cons:
- overpriced for what you get; our room was SO TINY, like a shoebox. You are paying for the location near the train station

I recently stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Here are the cons: stairs throughout this hotel need to be repaired: they're in sturdy, extremely creaky, and very narrow, (there is no elevator so to carry a medium sized suitcase upstairs is very tricky). Another con is you can hear your neighbors and the people above you walking.
The cons didn't bother me so much, but just letting you know.
The pros: right across the street from Kings Cross/St Pancras station (underground/train-rail). (If you're a Harry Potter fan, you can take a pic at platform 9 3/4 and there's a HP 9 3/4
