There is something special about Knossington & Somerby Pre-school. We are located in the heart of a small rural community in the village of Knossington. We believe that outdoor learning is very important and our location is perfect to ensure that many of the learning experiences we offer our children are unique.
Our children feed cade lambs, pick blackberries in the fields, compost and grow vegetables in our allotment garden, go on local farm walks and easter egg hunt in the village church. Staff ratios are high, typically 1: 4, allowing flexibility for trips out and 1 to 1 working. We provide a high standard of care and education within the Early Years Foundation framework and are graded as Outstanding by Ofsted but there is so much more.

Services
We believe that outdoor learning is very important and our location is perfect to ensure that many of the learning experiences we offer our children are unique. Knossington & Somerby Preschool aims to provide high quality childcare and education in a safe and friendly environment. We nurture the children through play, to learn and develop in six key areas following Early Years Foundation Stage Guidance.
We begin our morning session with a register when the children learn to recognise their own name, days of the week, dates and the weather. We have a fruit snack at about 10.30am where the children pour their own drink and choose from a selection of chopped fruit. We usually go out for a walk round the village or to the park or allotment garden.
How will my child and I be made to feel welcome and how will you get ready for my child coming?. We are an inclusive and extremely friendly preschool, the adults and all of the children. Everyone is given a warm welcome and a fond farewell. We understand safeguarding practices and provide a welcoming safe environment at all times.
We offer an inclusive provision, ensuring that all children's needs and interests are catered for. Staff work in partnership with parents and other professionals and use the Key Person system so that we may get to know each child. We know that each child is unique and celebrate this within our preschool.
Knossington Village Hall is a lovely old building with lots of character. We have been lucky enough to secure several grants from The Big Lottery Fund, Leicestershire County Council and Grass Roots, Voluntary Action Leicester and as a result we have some great equipment. A set of different wooden room dividers allow us to create fantastic role play situations and give us some flexibility for quiet and activity corners.
