A fantastic hotel only a short walk away from historic York and within view of the main Roman gateway to the city. The owners are very friendly and John, a Scotmans with a lovely accent, serves a fantastic full English with eggs done in any style I wanted. In fact, I had eggs done differently at breakfast each morning, nothing was too much trouble. The room was light and airy, but warm and cosy too. I would highly recommend a stay when visiting beautiful York.

Pros. Nicely decorated.Hosts very helpful carried bags up to room..Food nice. Good selection of breakfast food. Rooms all very clean. Plenty of tea, coffee etc, fan supplied. Cons, twin rooms up 36 stairs and two landings.no lift. Twin room small,no wardrobe just a pole on wall. Very noisy road, no double glazing so sirens all night. They do supply ear plugs. No parking outside. Also no bar.Not sure about all the other glowing reviews they must be in different rooms. This was just my honest experience of a twin room.

We stayed overnight last Saturday and the Ashberry came highly recommended off my sister who has stayed a few times. Steve & Sara are great, friendly hosts. Our room was a family room and was absolutely lovely, and equipped with everything. Lovely towels and hairdryer plus toiletries if needed. Breakfast was delicious, with plenty on offer. Didn't want to leave, a great place....thankyou!
