My name is Nick Shilton and I own Shilton Cast Iron and Welding jointly with my wife, Hayley. I work mainly in the workshop, and she works mainly in the office, and this seems to suit us rather well! We founded the business in 2005.
Following 15 years working in the cast iron industry but not solely for myself, I decided to take the plunge and, luckily, Hayley jumped in with me (although not literally, as she was expecting our second child at any moment and couldn't really jump at all).We are dedicated to our business and have delighted in watching it grow year after year.

We are experienced in repairing huge machinery, components and parts from oil rigs and gas plants across the UK and beyond. As this sector forms a large proportion of our workload we are experts in ensuring out-of-action machinery is up and running in the shortest possible time. When a column pipe became cracked on an oil rig off the UK coast, we were able to adjust the length of the pipe and install new flanges to fit.
Using our specialist, high quality welding equipment and techniques we can repair all types of broken and cracked cast iron engine parts and components for the industrial and shipping industries. Without our fast and effective repairs the manufacturing process or scheduled crossings of cargo ships would be delayed as workers and crew await a new part or component, which can take months to arrive.
We are proud to serve several large power stations and water companies. As with any industry, timing is crucial to the viability of the business. We understand any down time of vital machinery will very quickly impact on productivity. That's why we will repair the broken element efficiently, effectively and within a fraction of the time it would take to buy new.
Although the vast majority of our work comes from large market sectors such as gas and oil and water, we still enjoy working on smaller, individual projects. When major restoration was being carried out at a church. It was found that the guttering hopper heads were badly eroded and was causing damaged to the stone work.
