We work predominantly in the marine engine industry, our casting repair skills are in high demand for repair and for an increasing amount of heritage castings in the form of architectural, steam and vintage vehicle components. Typical problems dealt with are mechanical damage, fractures, erosion and cracks.
Components are dismantled, cleaned, crack tested and hydraulically tested to 10 bar. Critical dimensions are recorded and a detailed inspection report together with a fixed price quotation is submitted to the customer for approval.

The process of welding cast iron was originally researched by two brothers, Harold G Palmer and Tom Palmer back in 1946. Together they developed the welding process and the special fluxes required to weld cast iron materials which are still used to this very day. Harold G Palmer established a cast iron welding company named Welding Leicester Ltd in 1946 in an old brick shed in Leicester.
Cast Iron Welding Services has well over 70 years' experience working with and repairing cast iron. Cast Iron Welding Services can use their vast experience to provide services to spread over many sectors ranging from Marine/ Power Generation, Heritage Architectural Iron work, right across to the enthusiast restoring and maintaining the originality of classic and vintage engines.
Over 30 years ago Cast Iron Welding Services took the long practiced technique of gas fusion welding of foundry castings and applied it to marine engine components. We have developed a remanufacturing method which has offered an attractive alternative to the expense of buying a new part and the risk of buying a second hand one.
Cast Iron Welding Services Offer First Class Restoration and Conservation of Buildings and Heritage Installations Around The World To Preserve Our History and Heritage. Cast Iron Welding Services are aware that the use of cast iron in architecture was very popular during the Victorian era within the UK.
Gas fusion welding of cast iron ensures a homogeneous stress free weld with improved metallurgical and machining properties compared to those of the parent metal. All castings are pre-heated at a controlled rate until the optimum welding temperature is reached. Whilst the entire component is maintained at this temperature, the area to be remanufactured is then subject to the application of intense localised heat bringing it to a fluid state.

I had a catastrophic failure of the main reciprocating arm on an obsolete shaping machine. I contacted Cast Iron Welding Services thinking it was probably impossible to repair. However, Andy of CIWS was extremely reassuring that a practical repair would be possible because of their world beating methods. I sent said part to them again apprehensive about if they would take it on and if so how long. They turned around the repair extremely quickly and I was astounded at the quality of the weld. I was expecting some distortion but on checking the initial critical machined surfaces there was absolutely
